Ah ha. Love the light holder for coin photos. I will do that. So, according to PCGS, a 1964 D Silver coin in MS condition could be worth a little bit, and the photo doesn't do it justice, I'll order that little Ring light, and upload better pictures. Thank you all.

Yours is a Philly mint dime, 90% silver. I can't judge the surfaces from these fuzzy photos but it appears (maybe) to be at least AU condition.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

I would almost bet money this coin is in MS condition, and a high one at that. I'm really excited about this coin. I apologize that I can't get a better picture. But no hurry. I'll send it off and report back what they say. I'm willing to gamble $27 on this one.

Isn't it $27 per coin at PCGS? And yes, I've looked over those photographs already, and I still think mine is a 65 or better. There is no where on it at all, and one scratch on the back. Just asking ya to trust me that the picture is very cloudy.

Even if it made MS-66, which is unlikely given the bag mark on the torch, it would be worth less than the cost of grading it. It looks like a very nice coin, but I'd be careful about spending money at PCGS before learning more about grading.

To get coins graded at PCGS, you first have to be a member

Agree with DearBorn The end price per coin climbs upward to a point it would be financially prohibited to send off this beauty as it is though not of an significant value to justify sending it in to slab. Dip It Flip It and Slip It in a Sleeve for viewing and preservation.

Yea, you all are right. I'm letting my enthusiasm override my good judgement. I appreciate the advice and will just keep it. What I'm hearing you all say really is that Mint State means just that, practically perfect, and a ding on the back of this coin means not mint state. In honesty, I find it hard to trust folks on the internet anymore. There's so many scammers out there, but you seem to be a good group of folks so I'm going to choose to trust ya'll.
Hey, I sent a text to the Contact Us group. As a web developer I'm very interested in who runs this website. I see it's hosted through Go Daddy. Are you all big enough to have staff that does this or is it third party? anybody know? I love to chat with that team. No, I'm not looking for a job, just wondering if I can get invovled. LOL.

Good call to hold on this one - it is quite possibly mint state but that big hit on the reverse torch will hold it back from any lofty grade. To help calibrate you on true certification costs you need to consider all the costs - not just the single coin submission fees. PCGS charges $69 annually for membership. You must be a member to have submission privileges. The economy submission is $27. You pay postage and insurance both ways so call that another $25 or so. Add all that up for this one coin and you'll see that taking the chance on a potential MS62/MS63 dime is just not worthy of the investment. Place it in a 2x2 and enjoy it as is. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate all of it. @John1: Yes, I realize MS goes from 60 - 70 and I also realize that PCGS has a membership, but I already joined that. I guess what I didn't realize is that one ding on the back of the coin would degrade it all the way to a 62/63. It's such a beautiful coin. But it is what it is, That said, it does seem though the coins of value are the ones that have been graded 67 or above. The rest, whether EF, AU, or Under 65 are just face value and fun to have. Although I also see on ebay, the market can go anywhere depending on just what a buyer wants.

I agree about ebay, it can be a gauge on value to a point, due to so many greedy sellers inflating prices of relatively inexpensive coins hoping to snare the unaware and uneducated buyers. And as Nickel said we volunteer our time for the love of the hobby.
