@ keith12 & BadThad - the more I look at this the more I think you are right. The 7 looks a hair low, the loop of the 9 is not as tight as it should be and the E in Liberty looks pretty well struck I think. Oh well.

Easy enough to take this off my watch list and move on. Thanks!

another thing I just noticed is what appears to be a large scratch running from cheek under the eye down to the jaw. it looks fairly deep. could it be lighting/glare...sure. just wanted to call that out in case you missed it. also, I'm seeing something similar around the ear area

well, I went ahead and bought it for $18. want to see what it looks like in hand. 30 day return so can only lose postage. trying to learn how to judge coins only from pics. closest LCS that actually has coins for sale and not just bullion is about 45 minutes away and the owner is not very personable, so ...

If have it in hand now, definitely a small date. Can't get good pics of the fields or sharp details but looks like very slight wear on the cheek and beard. Also 3-4 bag marks on obv and 2-3 on rev. At least I can stop buying not 'OBW' rolls trying to get one in the wild.

if you use a phone try this to get photos

1. turn off flash

2. place coin on flat surface with indirect natural light. maybe a window sill in a cloudy day. Use a black or white background to avoid any reflective color

3. move phone about 3in from coin

4. zoom in using your fingers until the coin comes into focus and fills the cameras view finder. if your phone has a portrait selection use that and then press and hold on the coin in the view finder to AF lock it

5. hold phone steady. if you can't then place something on either side of the coin (like books) at that distance and lay phone between them. this will hold it steady and allow you to zoom and take the photo without any blurring

@panzaldi - Thanks but I've done that exact method numerous times. problem is the pics are too flat with no detail of the fields. I've tried my phone, samsung tablet and old Canon point and shoot, all with the same results. even tried the selfie ring method but the camera lens is in the wrong position for that. tempted to buy old/used dslr. <sigh>

@ mcshilling - Thanks! paid $21.99 with shipping. I'm guessing if I got it graded it would still be worth $22

why? inventory. I sell on ebay. it may not be the brightest move. I don't sell a lot but what I do sell I usually make 50% profit or better. my inventory comes from ebay too. working with low capital too so my options are limited.

plus I wanted to test my grading skills. this is the only one I over graded, didn't see it was cleaned obviously. under graded a proof quarter by one grade (65/66) and a ms half dollar by two (64/66).

that doesn't seem bad for 8 coins
