I would recommend you send to UK NGC and save on the shipping and time. There will be a member ship fee of $25 US plus grading fees. You will need to buy some SAFLIP coin flips double pocket 2x2 no PVC. Go online to NGC UK and follow the instructions about membership, submittal form, and shipping. If you have questions, give NGC a phone call. The coin should sent in a small box with secure packing and all seams taped. Standard tier would be your best option. Insurance is your call.

Personally I don't think it is worth the expense of slabbing. I would consider this coin to be in the VF range. PCGS lists this coin in VF-25 at $500 but that is for a straight graded coin. Since yours would receive a details grade for the harsh cleaning, the value may be half of that. Of course if the thought is to have it authenticated then it may be worth your while. Just something to ponder. Best of luck whatever you decide.

My apologies, I just noticed that this is a 1873 S rather than just a plain 1873. Value is higher for the S mint coin and it may indeed be worthwhile to have it slabbed. With a value in the $600 range for a straight graded coin, your "details" coin may still be worth about $300.

To-day Tuesday 19th March 2024 I deposited the US Trade dollar at the NGC office in London to be graded in America. It will take 6 weeks to perform the grading.

Seems genuine but harshly cleaned. If it was a cast fake I think (1) The strike would be much weaker in the center and (2) It would not have the proper weight.

Six weeks have elapsed and I now have the graded 1873 Silver Trade dollar. NGC have graded it as 'XF Details Harshly Treated' I don't know what that means and how does it assist me in making a valuation of the coin? I have uploaded the image of graded Silver Trade dollarThanks for you past help.

Thank you for the update. Based on earlier opinions, this was not unexpected. Values for details coins are difficult to determine. My uneducated guess is probably is a significant percentage off a straight grade. 20-50% maybe? NumisMedia has it at $360 for XF-40. The only way to know for sure is to list it and see what you get. As an inherited piece, I have to assume the sentimental value is higher.
