It is hard to tell from the photo whether it is uncirculated. Could you get one that as a little more focused?

Cheers!

Photos are too blurry to determine a grade estimate.

It appears to have quite a bit of dark buildup all along the obverse rim, the date, and the edge of the bust. I am still learning how to analyze silver coins, but that suggests to me that there was darker toning or circulation crud that was subsequently cleaned off.

I agree that it is hard to say from the photos, but there does seem to be some touching around the bottom of the bust, the inner wing, and the hair near the cap edge. My guess would be AU. However, that reverse seems to have a lot of luster and looks very clean, so it's hard to be certain.

Is this an ebay coin that you are evaluating for purchase?

To CCF! We'll need a more in focus photo of the obverse.

I've tried my best to take new photos on my iPhone. If they're still not up to scratch let me know - I'll need a new plan.
The coins were mixed up in this old tin left to me by my dad.
There were actually 4 Mercury dimes. I've popped them all in
this time.

Thanks h

These are moderate lightly circulated coins that was saved from being further damaged, they're in extra fine to AU grades.

The 1942 S could be a RPM or just dirt.

That looks like the same reverse posted for the 1941-S. It bears a passing similarity to RPM-001. That should be gently investigated further.

Don't do anything harsh to that coin, including scrubbing and chemicals. The folks here can guide you on how to poke and prod further.

I'll say AU-58, perhaps mishandled but I don't think this is uncirculated.

I'll say AU for the grade. Appears to be lightly circulated.

Thanks everyone
You are right Brandmeister - I accidentally posted the wrong reverse image for 1944 - apologies - here's the correct one
And, no, I haven't cleaned them at all - that's probably obvious. Is it a good idea to give them a gentle wash?
Also, I've sorted all the coins into country groupings in plastic sandwich bags - is that okay?

Thanks again everyone, especially Brandmeister for your 'gentle' pointer.
I have just re-read the thread, and no, these aren't ebay coins, they're mine, left to me by my dad in that green tin.
I haven't sold any of them yet.
Just trying to get my head around the many layers to this coin collecting labyrinth. And getting slowly addicted along the way.
Cheers

I think the obverse will hold it to AU-55.

Looking forward to any more information on that possible 1941-S RPM. A casual search showed that it seems at least 2x as valuable as a typical dime, at least in uncirculated grades. I don't know about AU, but it's an interesting coin.

that container is going to destroy these coins. the black you see is from being stored there. get them out now!

only post 1 coin per thread as it gets confusing which one is the one we are assessing. if its the same coin...note it. I don't know if these are all the same coin or different ones
