Looks like a normal '46 Nickel in very nice condition. Doubtful that it is counterfeit.

Thank you for the compliment, John1!

I am only using my phone to take pics and edit them.

The mark seems to be incused.

Coin is legit, that mark could be a strike thru.

Also take a pic of the outside edge near that feature.

I don't see any obvious gripper marks on the obverse from a vise or other crushing damage. The dented area could be a strikethrough or planchet divot, but is most likely to be PSD or PMD.

The smaller I tried to make the pic, the blurrier it got.

It's a real coin. That area in question could be a Struck Through error.

If it were PMD, then, why is the "mark" underneath the D and not over it?

Either a struck through or a defective planchet before strike.
Either way, little if any premium in case you were wondering.

No, not really, but, thanks John1! Just wasn't sure on this one. I guess I'll take it to a coin shop to where they can examine it in person and see what's up with it.

I just hang on to certain coins. Whether being DD, RPM or "nice" like my nickel! &

Something I got in to during the Pandemic. My husband still puts his change on the bed and I take pics of each one and zoom in lol!

Thank you to all for replying!

There is a minimum focal distance for all mobile devices. The approach that works best is to get a good focus at whatever distance is necessary, and then crop the picture to the interesting area. Zooming seems to lower the resolution way more than cropping, and it is also more sensitive to tiny movements of the device.

Looks like a strike through.....if it was a planchet defect then that area would have to be raised on the die which doesn't make sense.
