To CCF! Give it a soak in 100% pure acetone and see if it comes off. Probably dried glue.
Errers and Varietys.

Yes, the result of an acetone soak could tell us much. Must ask...what does the other side look like?

I had an old quarter like this - glued to a paper backing. It took about 3 days for the acetone to eat through the glue.

Remember when the kids did the Tide Pod challenge? The dumber ones added a quarter to that challenge. EDIT - That was the "end" result! How could you not like that - ?

The bat reverse design is very pretty and cute - maybe someone decided to use the coin as a badge and affixed it to their clothing or something? A Halloween decoration maybe?

First of all thank you all for the welcome. 2nd thanks for the reply and suggestions about an acetone bath. Question? If it is some kind of mint error will the acetone cause permanent damage like discoloring? If you all say it's safe, 100% safe, it's getting the acetone bath. I'm hard headed and still think the metal has melted. . It looks that way to me under high magnification. But thats just my opinion and thats why I decided to post the coin here and get the opinions and suggestions from folks who know a lot more than myself. . I have no problem believing that someone tampered with the coin. That was my first though honestly. But the under magnification looks have me with baffled. The quarter did come out of a new roll of uncirculated 2020 P Bat quarters. Thats another puzzle. I'm going to go find some Acetone as soon as I post this. I will share the results with photo's ASAP. Again, Thanks for the replys.

Quote: It still baffles me how it was in a new uncirculated roll of the 2020 P Bat Quarters Most "unc" rolls are not that. They are rolled by third party rollers like Lomis or string. The only way you can be sure they are new nowadays is if they are wrapped in official mint paper straight from the mint. This coin looks like it has seen a little circulation.

Yes it is. I was in awe when I bathed it and saw final result. The Acetone was a very good recommendation . I did further reading on the subject and found for long term storage and for restoration Acetone is used frequently without devalue of the coins. This is a great place to get educated on coin collecting.
