As I understand it, sellers can now only advertise paypal on ebay, but are free to take payment however they like.

I believe that it would be illegal not to accept US cash for a US debt.

A relevant bit I posted to another question - Forced paypal is the latest scam. Paypal (really ebay now) forces me to pay in Canadian money for US purchases so that they can charge very high currency conversion fees. They won't accept my American money even though I keep American credit cards for US purchases (that everyone else takes) because I am ordering from Canada.

I thought this was what anti-trust laws were for. Perhaps this should be discussed in this forum.

hmm... anti-trust, eh? That could be leveraged since PayPal is forced, but then there are methods to accept things other than PayPal.

What trust did they break? It's part of the Paypal user agreement that you only have to honor if you want to be a Paypal member. Nobody's forcing you.

So if I drop Paypal, would I be able to accept checks and money orders on ebay?

Clearly abusing ebay venue by selling what is worth less than $100.00 for many millions of dollars.

Sorry but not even close to against the rules. In fact, if ebay tried to tell me what I'm allowed to ask for my items, I would be fuming mad.

The mailed payment option is the only angle.

I just read the description and it looks like he described it very well actually.

I would never do a BIN on something like this for spite. It's a binding contract and you can bet your bippy that for a $300,000 in fees you'd end up in court.

ebay encouraged these types of listings by letting people list price unlimited BINs for about $4 a year. It was indeed silly idea.

Just let it go and let idiots be idiots. Obviously, this guy is a scamster. Take a look, a good laugh, and move on. If someone is dumb enough to bid on his items, that's their loss.

How very Price-is-Right of you to outbid me by a cent. No matter though, he countered my $1 offer with $450.

Me too. And I thought I was generous with a $35 offer!

I got the same counter offer of $450. I guess he didn't get the message that we think his coin isn't worth much.

He's a legend in his own mind :-) I'd love to see this guy set up a table at Long Beach. They would laugh this guy out of the building.

It is odd that he countered your offer at $450 when it is stated in his listing that he would take $315 and offers around $365. Sounds like someone whe is confused at life and doesn't know what they want.

In any event I think your would be getting ripped off at $35...

Good for a nice laugh.

Yeah, shows can be rough.

There was a sports memorabilia guy in NJ that was well known on the circuit to sell fake autographs out of his shop. When he started setting up at shows the guy had the worst luck. Seems every single table he set up on always had a defective leg or two, they'd just seem to collapse for no reason. Stuff all over the floor......
