Quote: Yeah that seems to be the only way to do it. Just hard to get confidence in what you are looking for at times since I feel like I have cashed in ones that did have something and didn't realize it! Lol There is no "get rich scheme" here. Many of the folks on this site have been doing this for multiple decades, I got interested in coins in 2011 and only started really learning in 2017, it takes time. I have searched well over a million cents now and many other denominations too and spent hours reading and re-reading the info on the links I have given you. This is a labor of love.

Quote: The number 8 is almost 3D which is why I guess it's a DD It is a doubled die, the poster of the thread gave you the link to the official listing, which describes the doubling, you really need to pay attention to all the information or it's all for not and you will never get it. I have marked up the doubled die below to show you what I and the listing are describing. The distortion shows as extra thickness and the notching shows as the top of the 1 having a slanted look to it. Please read and study the links I have given you, not an easy task but necessary.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the distortion is due to the different style of how the dies contact the planchet; anvil die vs (I can't remember name of new one) but am I wrong on this?

New style twists, is tapered, thus shows more distortion than say a '55s doubling

You are not kidding about this being a labor of love!
How do you get the Quote boxes in your replies? I don't see any button that allows for that when I try to reply to you directly.

Quote: New style twists, is tapered, thus shows more distortion than say a '55s doubling The "new style" you speak of, is from the single squeeze doubled dies, which are typically class 4, class 8 or a combination of the two or class 9, the 1955 P DDO-001 you speak of is a class 1 doubled die, totally different type of hub doubling.

Marlies I circled it in red, it's the "insert quote" button.

Can't reply to specific threads to get the quotebox from someone's entry in the thread.
Only get what you see at the bottom, but it doesn't pick up who I'm trying to reply directly to.

Quote: bbWhaaaat? ..but I...that is very disappointing! Such a bummer, Tacc. I was actually brought into this Coin World by a 1914 D Lincoln Cent I saw go for over $5,000, I was immediately hooked. Then I somehow got pulled into Morgan dollars for several years and then back to Lincolns. Along the way, it dawned on me to quit expecting the white whale and just enjoy myself ,and I have, since I made that decision. It's tough to explain that to the newbies though, as for all the things I have been told in earlier life that I paid no attention to until it came to fruition. What do you do....

Laptop for the most part, but phone is the same. I have not done it on a phone but this is how I do it on my laptop. Highlight the words you want to quote and hit ctrl (control key) and the letter c at the same time. Go down to where you would normally reply and hit the "Go to full reply" button. Hit the "insert quote" button I have circled and you will see the two qs in brackets come up on the screen. You then hit the ctrl key on your keyboard at the same time with the v key, it will drop what you marked earlier in between the quotes. Then just move your curser outside of the quotes if it is not already and type whatever response you wanted to go after the quote.
