I'd weigh it. Looks like a tapered planchet to me. Likely comes in around 2.85g.

Considering the scuff marks and uneven wavy surface it looks more like a damaged coin.

I agree with PMD. Wheat cents deserve better! You saved it from further abuse.

Good job with the annotation, Chase007!

I'm thinking that it's a genuine Tapered Planchet, with unfortunate PMD as well. https://www.error-ref.com/tapered-planchets/

Girlinlove, it's still carries some value, but not as much with the rim damage.

Tapered planchets are fairly nice errors with very little premium even in decent condition. Just have never been that popular with the collectors. Fun to find but not valuable.

Does anyone else see the Blakesly effect on both sides?

Blakesly effect on error-ref.com- https://www.error-ref.com/_curved_clips_/
Even though the Blakesly effect is usually associated with clips, it seems like any amount of reduced metal (tapered planchet?) near the rim could produce one.

If the tapered end was missing enough metal when it went through the upsetting mill, it seems a Blakesly effect could be produced.

I'm curious to see what others might think about the possibility of a Blakesly effect being produced on a tapered planchet.

Tapered planchets are often associated with coins struck right at the edge of the metal roll, and so straight clips are pretty common on them. This coin likely was struck with a small clip, as it shows Blakesley and Smith effects.

Well thus is getting interesting! Funny thing is, I've had this for a while but thought it was just PMD until I came across it again. Dang it now I have to look thru them all again LOL
