Remarkably nice luster for a 200+ year old bust half! Perhaps a cabinet rub on the obverse, I'd say MS-64.

i agree with zurie on the rub. adding that to a little but of flatness determining if this coin has been circulated is not an easy task.
AU58 or MS63. in any case shes a beauty. I'm leaning toward MS63

NS, with it in hand, do you think AU58 is the correct grade?
Otherwise, a super nice coin.

Thanks Adam. I think it is correctly graded as an AU58. The lock of hair above the ear and the lock right behind it are slightly discolored. I think there may have been slight rub there at one point. Having said that I own quite a few AU58 Capped Bust half dollars and none of them look like this one. It looks like it was minted yesterday with full mint bloom whereas it was minted when redcoats were running around burning government buildings in our young nation. There are many coins in mint state holders that are less attractive than this one imho. As time goes on, eye appeal has become a more important consideration when choosing coins. Great buy! I'd much rather have a gorgeous AU-58 like this than a less attractive MS-63.
