There was a good article in last week's E-Sylum that provides context and details how deeply problematic this medal is.

Quote:
If this medal proposal comes to fruition, nobody in the Treasury Department or in the Penske Corporation will emerge looking good. It will appear to be a private company's misuse of public institutions. It will be a stain on the integrity of our national numismatic traditions and will open the Treasury Department to even more questionable programs.

Obviously a hard pass for me as well.

CollegeBarbers thank you for the link, very informative. Perhaps one answer is the fact that Mr. Penske donated over $1.1million to Mr. Trump in the 2024 election cycle.

Although not a coin this Medal would fit in nicely with my ongoing collection of sports/race cars on coins. $60.00 seems steep but that's the way of the Mint nowadays. Next year I plan to cut back my Mint buys drastically, so I think I'll get one now, instead of hoping for a better price years from now.

I still have some of those! Probably worth more than this thing.

ATS : 11,997 as of 9:57 PDST. . .

I wish the Mint would have considered a bronze medal to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. . .perhaps a commemorative coin series. . .both ?

I wonder if Team Penske will be receiving a portion of the proceeds? My bet is "Yes!"
