WW, with the open O, this coin should be in the B2b reverse series. Can't find any to match. I also don't see the distinctive squared look between the leg and wing for the reengraved feathers on the 189. I do see what appears to be some problems on the obverse motto. P in Pluribus appears to be broken at the top and U appears to be doubled on the inside left. See if you can match this coin to any of the 160 series. Interesting coin.

WW, I don't believe it's a 189 as those re-engraved feathers appear more prominent in the VAMworld photos. Check the base of the 'P' in PLURIBUS. It appears to have "right-side" doubling. Match that diagnostic up with one of the 160-series VAMS (and hope for a 166, but a very long shot). I don't have access to VAMWorld from where I'm sitting now, but start with a 168.

WW, I hit this again last night when I had access to VAMWorld and with that open 'O' it can't be a 166. I'm still unable to attribute this one from the photos provided, but am confident that I narrowed it correctly. Rev of 78, short nock, with broken 'r' in Trust puts it in the 160~189 grouping. Some of these have closed 'o' and some are open. The key to the grouping is that broken 'r'. I checked this against the VAM 168 and don't believe that's a match either ... too many missing diagnostics. If you want to attribute it, go to VAMWorld and using a 10x try to find matching diagnostics in this grouping. The doubling at the base of the 'P' in PLURIBUS is the key in my opinion. Once you've made a match you can bounce results off us and we'll be glad to confirm or deny.

I didn't have time last night to check those again. I went through the VamWorld list once. I must have missed my match. Nothing new there, my wife always says 'I missed the mark'! When I get home tonight, I will reevaluate specifically those from 160 through 189. THANX for the advice to narrow my search.

Well I went through the VAM between 160 and 189 and here are my conclusions: VAM - Comment 160 - stars not doubled 161 - no notch on 'E' 162 - 'N' or 'M' not broken 163 - no notch on 'M' - 'U' not broken 164 - no doubling of 'I' in Liberty 165 - no doubling on the 'L' 166 - 'O' in GOD not closed 167 - 'P' foot not doubled 168 - no lines connecting open 'O' in GOD 169 - stars not doubled, tripled or quadrupled 170 - Date not doubled 171 - 'R' not doubled/tripled 185 - no gouges by bow 185A - 'O' in GOD not closed 185B - no die scratch between 'I' and 'B' 186 - no extra metal on first '8' 186A - no spike above eyelid 186B - no die chips on '8' 187 - 'L' not doubled 188 - 'L' not washed out Nothing left? Any other suggestions?

ww, Sometimes it can be frustrating ... when I started Vamming two years ago I was a 22-yr old underwear model, now I'm a 56-yr old derelict. Without larger pictures, I can't be more help. Do you have access to a digital microscope? I picked up a QX-5 last year and it not only saved my eyesight, but it allowed me to see subtle things on those worn Morgans. I could see doubling and die scratches that I couldn't see with a 10x loupe. Now I scan them all and take 60x pictures of the small stuff. It's really frustrating having VAMWorld blocked on the computer at work (all wiki sites are blocked). I have to rely on my memory which was OK when I was a 22-yr old underwear model. I haven't given up on this one ... don't you! Edit - WW check out the top of that first 'U' in PLURIBUS. That should also be a key diagnostic.

Here's the 'P'. There is some damage to the foot of the 'P' and is post mint.

This just keeps getting better and better. Had I seen only the picture of the P, I'd have shouted #165. What makes you think this is post mint damage. Asking a lot now, can we have a series of pictures of all the lettering plus a series of In God We Trust.

Here ya go. As for the damage on the 'P'. Just to its right you can barely see where an object came from 1 0'clock to 7 o'clock. It mangled the lower foot. Here be the pics. Let me know if they are okay.

WW, I would still like to see a real close picture of the bottom of P. I'm not ruling out the 165, but I am leaning towards the 185. You have to be very careful on Vamworld. Any one that joins can post pictures. Just because someone found a coin with the die gouges doesn't mean they all have it.

Is this horse still being kicked? I'm going with VAM 165. WW that base of your 'P' isn't damage it's from the die. Here's the picture from VAMWorld and yours (lightened and contrasted). Those are a match. I can also see the notches on the 'U'. What I can make out is the doubling on the right side of the 'L' due to the dark toning in that area. WW you will have to confirm it. Here's what you're looking to confirm.
