160.00 for an EF 09-S VDB ,, not only is the coin a great testament to history but so is the price that you bought it at !!

My father got me interested in coin collecting as a boy.........He is dying now of cancer at the age of 79 and he always told me to stay the course and get involved in a good hobby when I was young......I remember going back to New York City with him in 1974 and we bought a 1877 Indian in fine condition for $120.00 from a noted dealer there.........My dad horse traded a set of hubs to a guy for a 1914D in AU back in the sixties......Sure nice to chat with folks who understand the history foremost as that is the best part of this hobby.........

I guess the nicest part of my day is that I found some folks who understand, i.e., where they came from and how they were acquired........My folks acquired a Lewis and Clark Com. $1.00 Gold piece (I believe a 1903 or so) in the 60's from a gal who was housekeeping for them as they both worked and were raising 5 boys........She explained she needed money for her rent......My dad, being a collector felt sorry for her and did not want to take advantage of the situation told her he would give her $75.00 for it.......Man....Was my mother upset........Today that coin is still in good hands and ready for the next generation.......Dad in his later years collected so much, i.e., Silver Dollars and on and on.......

I wish I had a nice story like that. I just kind of started out of the blue (aside from about 50 wheats and 4 silver dollars I got given to me after I started). Sorry to hear about your father. Sounds like a good man.

People are going to be looking for something nostalgic with the Lincoln Cent; Something long lost and forgotton. Too bad I got the corner on all of them! Haaa get in line maybe I'll sell them as ETF shares!  Why, I even heard that the Star of India was Murph the Surf's alternate goal. His primary goal was to get this BIER from me. Dave, thats gotta be the coolest smiley I have ever seen!  And by everyones responce I am feeling like this is a more significant find than I thought it was? whats so special about it besides it just being doubled? is it worth bookoos of money or something? Sorry for the million questions but lincoln cents are worth well a penny to me and dont know what I am missing here (of course I figured it was worth a little more because of the apparant doubling but just how much more I am unaware) Edited by Bryan1315

Are you serious Bryan? I can remember since I was about 7 about the doubling on the 55. Although back then I thought it was in the wheat stalks for some reason. I only just collected wheaties then, but still knew about it.
If you aren't full of it... this is what you have and you really do not know the value (which I find one of those hard to believe) Greysheets at $8300 in 64, Eight thousand-three hundred dollars.
Edit, $27,000 in 65
$2,400 in 63
Sell that and you should be able to help with your Morgans

Can you provide a larger picture of the reverse? Preferably microscopic of T in Cent. I was off on that die scratch. It is supposed to be along the T, left side. My bad. It is supposed to be right along the shaft, maybe 1/4th of the thickness of the shaft away.

well In the condition your s is I speculate its a nice price so nice I will trade you a well worn susan b anthony for it . but that is only just to do you a favor LOL.. You have a coin that needs to be slabbed by NGC or PCGS I wont speculate on price ..

No I wasnt kidding, I had no idea, heck I had never even heard of the 55 DDO until alice showed one in the variety section of this board. My main focus in the 8 months I have been collecting was all morgans and I never really cared about anything else except that until I started coming to this forum. As for a microscope, I dont have one, and my digital camera is in florida with my wifes sister right now (those pictures were some I had taken because of another thread here trying to show what a DDO looked like instead of just plain Mechanical Doubling). When my sisterinlaw gets back I will definately get some more pics of the coins reverse for ya though, and man I just found this thing in a jar that my grandfather gave me not too long ago which was in a box with about a million other coins. The only reason I even looked for it was because Alice showed her uncles and I went to searching to see if I could find one Edited by Bryan1315
