No jewel, just a very nicely shaped nipple; at least that's what my boyfriend claims ;)

echizento,
You're correct. It's a beautiful, somewhat modern likeness of classical Europa.

hhbkiddo,
Guess they took a vacation from their prim and proper ways that year. From what I was told, around the mid-90's, a few EU countries developed a trial coin with the Euro, perhaps under the assumption that they would be switching out of their own currency, I suppose. In the case of the Swiss, that obviously didn't happen. I don't know for sure but I believe few examples of this coin are in existence. I'd love to know just how many and its approximate value. Not that I plan to sell, mind you. I'm just a collector.

It is definitely no coin, no usual coin and no unusual coin, even if any medal catalogue of KM calls them so. It was never currency in Switzerland nor in Europe or elsewhere. There exist no regular patterns of a Swiss Euro. So long as I live I am very sure Switzerland will never be a Euro country. Europa is never in history pictured this way. She shall be it, but Britannia is not such a bad guess for this kind of depicting ... It is a private medal with a picture of a nice girl. Nothing more.

There are a few "Fantasy Euro Patterns" listed in Unusual World Coins, but I do not see this one. Denominations appear to be CEROS and EUROP and are all dated 2003. There is a steam locomotive depicted on the 20 Ceros with a sail boat on the reverse, but that's the closest. (this is the 5th edition)

I ran across that URL earlier, and although they show some nice patterns for other countries, they don't show any for Switzerland at all. It seems they are on the lookout for them, at least, but if the OP's coin is dated 1997 one would think they would know about it by now if it was actually from that country.
Maybe sending them a query and picture of the coin in question would help, as they could look into it and perhaps find more information.

Now that I think about it more, the date probably isn't relevant if it's a 'pattern'. Any date could have been used.

Xshift, I'm guessing it's just one piece from a larger "Europa" set. With rather obvious emphasis on the obverse, a different country theme was applied to the reverse to make a set. And, with so many flagrant mistakes to the map, I wonder if this private-issue originated in Europe at all.

Quote: The figure almost distracts from that awful map of Europe I never even looked at the globe until I read your post. That is VERY funny. Good eye DVCollector! To have a value of 25 Euro this would have to be .999 silver would it not?

alganbagerap & xshift, I tried to send them the message below but unfortunately, it came back as undeliverable. Thanks for the link, though. It was worth a shot. Jen I've been unsuccessfully trying to get some information regarding the coin found at the link below. I bought it off a vendor on ebay. The coin has the following written on it: 1997 25 Euro Europe Europa Confoederatio Helvetia. It features a nude woman on one side and a train on the other, as well as a small Swiss flag. The seller told me it was from Switzerland but I can't find it in any book. I wanted to know the mintage and the value, along with a little of its history. Any help would be greatly appreciated. wheezydog,
The dealer who sold it to me said it was silver but he didn't know the content. I'm guessing .925 sterling.

I didn't detect anything egregiously wrong with the map, considering the artist probably created it as a stylized medieval representation; but I'm a blond so maybe I'm missing something, as usual ;) Map of Europe
