I am going to have it done. I have this fear of sending it anywhere. lol I am probably being silly. Will any grading company do it with the scratches? Could it just come back ungradeable? I just don't know who to send it to yet.

I know Anacs will grade the variety and put ut in a Details holder and you can send it in yourself without a membership or anything like that as for NGC or PCGS I have never sent anything to them myself. Always had my dealer do it for me.

I posted a reply to this a while ago but it didn't show up so I am gonna try again. I sent my coin out to ANACS and it came back today. It was authenticated and graded as F15, scratched. So now comes the fun part....what to do with it. I am going to sell it, just trying to figure out the best route to do so. I am happy that it was not a fake of course and I am not sure how the grading will affect the interest in the coin. It is listed for $2000 in this grade in Coin Prices magazine, but that is without the scratches. How can I determine what I should figure it is really worth?
edit: that should say that it says F15 Details

Damaged coins (scratched, cleaned, or otherwise) alomost always drop the value by at least 50%. I would say in an auction like ebay you could expect to get $800-$900 for it. I would of graded it F-12 still an interesting coin that many collectors will want for their collections.

Congrats and super coin! I zoomed to 400% and it looks good to me. I would say without the scratches easily F-12 maybe even F-15 but they are obvious. I would figure the net value to be VG-10 ish since it is a great coin to have and a rare coin in demand. If it were a 4 legger of the same date, I think it would be valued at VG-8 money-wise. Like others have said, it would probably end up being graded as 1936 D 3 1/2 legged F-12 with notation "Scratched" on the slab.

Very nice that you had the reverse of the coin placed on the front side of the holder. Not much fun to have a 3 or 3 1/2 legger that requires flipping the slab over to see it

Well its just say ANACS did what I would have done myself. I would think that all grading companies would put the highlight of the coin on the front of the holder, but maybe not. Anyways, thanks.
