If you focused on collecting coins with animals on them as one example of topical collecting it might really capture their imaginations. Animals are simple, cool and something that kids understand.

I'd bet too that just about everybody on this forum has some critter coins that they could send you scans of.

If kids like shiny stuff they'll find it on wolrd coins--nickel, copper-nickel, steel. Don't most kids love animals? And Australia would probably be ahead of the pack in that reguards. They have some of the coolest critter coins. But even the U.S has them and I'd bet every country on the planet that ever issued coins has them or has had them. Heck even countries that don't really exist have them.

See, the real issue is to bring the cost down as low as possible. The reason why I strictly avoided commemorative coins is because it's just way too expensive. Think about it, how much can a kid afford to pay for a hobby?

If I am not mistaken, Malaysia has been minting wildlife coins at a very reasonable price, specifically minted for kids, but I am not too sure how the results came out to be.

Some things you could put in the book would be all the different coins. Maybe telling their history. Instead of giving alot of coins Maybe a couple of No date Buffalos. Cheap and interesting.

Of course making this kid friendly you go along the lines of an animal telling this. I like the names that triggersmob came up with.

Myabe if you want to get really deap into the history of coin collecting go into roman coins.

Even explain how coins are made, the different types and denominations.

Just some suggestions!

there are hundreds of animal coins in the world coinage series, alot more than you would think, you have the panda (which comes out every year) the roo (which also comes out every year) and many many other coins from different countries that bears an animal, so there are plenty of animal coins to fill probably 2 or 3 books so that is a great idea I would think

I disagree. http://coinzoo.clements.on.ca/

Can't see how 600+ is not a lot as well as Daniel noting that there are 907 different circulated coins.

I have put together a quick first draft

Thus far it only includes one image- I plan on many more
any one wanting to see the first draft email me at rggoodie@coincommunity.com
and I will send you a copy to laugh at and make comments about.

I am not doing this for the money- I believe it would and should be helpful to the youth.

look on line, and you can find a whole lord of the rings cult. they mint there own coins, print books in the elf tounge, and a whole marage of other things. you can get great coins that are each hnd made for about $5 the makers will like the publecity, and the kids will like it for the film. hey, maby you can get a kid to read some classic lit. I shure enjoyed it when I was 12.

Hey lim! Do you have the gold ring on silver coin? My wife and I both purchased that coin as the gold REALLY leaps out off of the silver! Outstanding coin if I must say so myself.
If rggoodie had only started this when Harry Potter was first released as I had a connection in Great Britain sending HP coins that were made for a store promotion over there and it was really quite a set. I (we) managed to put sets together for the whole family and they even came with a bank passbook that was full on information. Really a unique set that is now long gone from the market!

From memory I got the package of 6 coins from an ebay auction for $12.50. The coins were minted by The Royal Mint for New Zealand.
