I seldom disagree with Superdave, but I would crack the 1890. The AT question is significant and it is important that the TPG judged the 1876 as naturally-toned. You can obviously hang onto the label but that won't guarantee that the coin will still avoid an AT stigma if it is resubmitted someday. A lesser point is that the 1890 coin appears brighter and I expect it will show up better in an album. I find it a nuisance to view dark-toned coins in an album since you have to tilt the whole book back and forth under the light to get a good look.

Keep making that 7070 pop. Although Jaobler makes some good points, I vote for the 76. Than you can sell me the 90 to upgrade MY 7070. Great acquisitions Bryan!

The 1890 is very nice, but that 1876 is without a doubt the most incredible dime I have ever seen of any year.

I was just getting ready to post pictures of my 1858 half dollar I just received but now that that 76 has been posted I am going to hang my head in shame. What an extremely beautiful coin!

I have to admit I am really torn on this one. The 1876 is an awesome coin and really love the colors and strike but I cropped out the coin and placed each coin in the page in photoshop and both look amazing but the 1890 in my opinion goes with the other coins better. So I really need some opinions on this one and some pros for why you would choose the one you pick. I don't know if this coin will be mistaken for AT or not (because I am no tone expert) but it has electric blue around the edges and kind of a magenta in the center on Obverse and Reverse and from what I have read this is the way a coin will tone, start out with this magenta color and as it layers it will turn blues and greens like it is around the outside of the coin. here are the coins photoshopped in the page so you can make a decision on which one to crack out

ok no one wants to comment on which one they would crack out after seeing these pictures? Does anyone think the 76 will detract from the other coins or do you think it will add to it. I will be cracking one of these out over the weekend so I really would like a few comments after everyone has seen what it will look like in the set once its in there. If I don't get any other comments I will go with what the census has already said and crack out the 1876 but thought maybe after seeing the whole page opinions may have changed. Thanks

Personally, I like the 1890 better and I'd put it in the 7070. I saw both for sale and really wanted the 1890, but didn't have funds necessary to purchase it. Both are very nice coins but the 1890 is nicer in my opinion and would look better in the Dansco.

My apologies Bryan. I read request wrong and thought that you wanted opinions from the pros, of which I am definitely not.
Anyway, here is my honest opinion; the 1876 dime does not fit into this set at all. It is several steps above everything else in that album (in 'my' opinion). Go ahead and put that 1890 in there though, it would fit nicely as the centerpiece. That 1876 dime needs to go into PCGS plastic to keep it from getting scuffed up.

Both coins are already graded by ANACS. The 1890 is a MS-61 and the 1876 is a MS-63

I am really thinking about putting the 1890 in there for now and if I get more toners someday the 1876 will fit in better. I will keep them both and can always switch them out if this happens and I get some heavily toned coins so this one coin doesn't stick out like a sore thumb

On strictly beauty alone then the '76 for sure. On value preservation then the '90.

If you are not concerned about losing the NGC guaranty on the '76, by all means crack it out.

They are both nice coins.

Personal preference, but I don't like a 7070 with the same kind of toning (or lack of toning) on all the coins. I think it is a classier presentation to mix in a few naturally toned coins along with proofs also. That is what I have done with my 7070. In your picture (both of which show the 90) I think the 76 might look better, the 90 just sort of blends in, and of course the 76 is the better grade coin and should be the one in the 7070 IMHO, but of course you should do what pleases YOU. It is all good.

Ain't disagreement wonderful?

I'm going to change my mind here, and recommend the '90 for that album. The reason is exactly the opposite of Colin's opinion - for me the '90 is more in keeping with the character of your 7070. Not to mention, Jaobler made a good point about preserving the proven authenticity of the '76.

I still like the '76 better, it'd be the one I owned if I had the choice, but it's not the coin for this album.

That's a quality 7070 you've been building. How long have you been working on it?
