A fake. The easiest way to tell is the leaf at the inside four o'clock position on the reverse is never complete. It's botched and it's the same on all this series of fakes.

tamarin, that is a good marker....it may be hindered however when/if the coin has been tumbled to a G/VG appearance. :-)

Sorry coinsrfun. When you initially said Big Tree Coin Factory, I thought you were being sarcastic but it apparently does exist (wonder how they came up with that name). Thanks for the comparison picture!
Tamarin thats a good tell to look for in fakes, I never knew about the 4:00 leaf. Something to watch out for in buying a more obtainable 1932.

Some here may know the secret identity of the guy behind the mystery mask of "coinsrfun" and some may not...suffice to say he has been well praised and had honors bestowed upon him for his work in the field. I'd listen to what he says. He's not going to point out this fact, but someone needed to.
As for the $270 price, it's a guarantee that it's a fake also. Nobody is going to let a coin that's worth tens of thousands go for $270 on the "off chance" that it might be a fake. If the seller had even the slightest hope it was real, he'd have sent it off to be graded himself. Mind you, if he tried, and it came back "fake" and uncertified, at that point he might try to pass it off as a "possible counterfeit". If it seems too good to be true....

Hello. I'm no coin expert. I figured I would combine the pictures and see what differences I could see. Here are just a few the popped out at me. Like I said. I'm no expert. I hope if you take it to get graded...it is what you thought it might be.

I ended up returning the coin and got my money back. The bases of the 1s and the inner leaf at 4:00 people mentioned convinced me. Thanks to all for their help on this one!

Have a very serious question : if a coin is ICCS certified ( or another TPG) what guarantee do we have that it is NOT a fake?ICCS is just simply not responsible, absolutely NOT transparent, offers absolutely NO guarantee... Just says: In our opinion.......this is..... and we should simply believe it? we have no idea what they base their "authentification" on... we are better off checking the original pictures on the Bank of Canada website, the archives...

Good idea on returning the coin. Now you can spend the cash on some something you know that you are getting your moneys worth. Have a great day.

it makes me happy when a buyer comes here to find the answers like this before its to late because so many times it is to late by the time they ask questions and they are stuck with their high priced fake. I am glad all of you people were able to help him out and just wish I had knowledge in this series to help as well but anyway I am glad to see a positive outcome on this
