This will be my first purchase from the mint. Although I don't really want to spend the money, I think I should get the coin. I went all the way up the scouting ranks. I was a Tiger Cub the second year or so they were started and got my eagle in 94. Although I really haven't been involved in scouting since graduating from high school and leaving for the Army in 95 I think this one should be a keeper.

Quote:My only question is, if they can make proofs of the DV and BS, why not ASE? The commeratives contain only 90% silver as compared to 1 troy ounce of bullion silver in the ASEs.

Hey I got an email saying my coin is shipping. Woo Hoo! Of course I won't be able to see it until I get home from Iraq the end of April, but that's no big deal.

Well I received my Two Proof and 1 BU Boy Scout coins the other day and I will say the quality was very good and I think the design is so-so.

There seems to be no "Hoopla" over these really in the marketplace. And I believe they are still for sale on the Mints website....so .....I guess no "HOT SELLOUT" is going to happen. But I still think that there is a potential for these to slowly rise in value through the years, once more Scouts (both old and new) become aware of them. I still think that a lot of Scout Masters would certainly get at least one of these, if they only were aware of them. Even if they have "zero" interest in coin collecting. I think there should be a MASSIVE EFFORT TO GET THE WORD OUT TO THEM !Then maybe we'd create a little demand that would never go away ! .... Somebody should send out Flyiers and/or emails to EVERY SINGLE SCOUT ORGANIZATION IN THEIR STATE !C'mon ! ......... LETS CREATE A PRARIE FIRE OF INTEREST HERE !............................ ..............

I think the design on the obverse is really killing sales. No one wants to see a girl on a Boy Scout coin. Front should have been the boy scout logo, with the back being the rank badges. Eagle surrounded by the others Scout - Life. Kind of like this: http://www.bsa757.org/uploads/image...ut_ranks.gif

.....though it's meaning (with the girl) is clearly explained of course. I agree that the specific depiction showing "a girl" on an all male organization coin, kind of "furrows the brow" a bit. Especially with so much pride regarding that. But I still say that most people are not even aware that this coin is even available !
