A collection with a unified look is more pleasing to look at than a mish-mash of coins. But it is too expensive for the typical collector to fill a 7070 with all proof issues. Perhaps the answer is to fill your 7070 with all business-strike coins, with modern issues in BU, and progressively older coins in AU and XF condition. Your budget would stretch farther, and you wouldn't have modern proofs threatening to make your Wheaties and Walkers seem shabby by comparison.

Building on this, you could make a point of restricting your 7070 to circulating issues, and still use classic commemoratives that actually saw circulation, such as the 1893 Columbian, 1923 Monroe Doctrine, 1946 Booker T. Washington, or even the 1953-54 Carver/Washington or the 1925 Stone Mountain. All but the Stone Mountain can be found in AU for under $30, and even the Stone Mountain can be found under 50 dollars.

I started out with proof modern commems because they really didn't interest me all that much and since dansco decided to put 4 holes for them I was going with the cheapest way I could to fill those holes that didn't interest me anyway. Since then I have purchased a couple classics (one was actually free) to put in place of the moderns but since they really still don't interest me I haven't really been actively looking.

Hey Bryan,

I actually wanted to do a 7070 after seeing yours! Its so nice. Also, can anyone answer this:

If I was to buy one now, and decide later on I wanted the other, which would it be cheaper to get? Like which would be more expensive in the future, making it harder to add to my collection. Thanks!

I actually have the Columbus Quincentenary coin from my 7070 album (the last coin in the commem section of my 7070 album pictures) that if you want I will send you free of charge. Just let me know and if you want I will email you through the forum and all you will need to do is reply to the email with your snail mail address and I will ship it to you. it is now in its original box with COA

The site I use the most for my commemortive coins is

www.coinsbybobby.com

There are many good sites to order fromm, and there is always ebay. I keep a favorites list and may check several of them for prices before I order.

As for which coins may go up more than the others that would be hard to guess. Most times any of the rare coins, old or new will go up more than the common coins. The coins we have been talking about old commemorative and new .. should stay pretty stable.

Bryan,
That would be amazing! I tried sending you an email, but I do not have access to it. I see that you are a moderator, so would you be able to look up my email address? please send me an email so we can talk. Thanks!

Goldrush - I will check out that site. Thanks!

yes I know that is why I said I would send you an email. I will send you an email right now but wanted to be sure this would be something you were interested in before I sent the email to you. This isn't anything expensive but at least it will be less holes you have to fill and I will have the joy of knowing I helped a YN at the same time. I also have a couple others (one I think everyone needs at least one of in their collection) that you do not have listed as a coin you already have for the album that I will send as a bonus nothing extravagant but may be a little hard to find in the price range you said you have to stay in

That's really great of you, Bryan

needgames... I haven't started a 7070, so I can't answer for that. But I find, when looking at coins together in 2x2's in binder pages, that it doesn't bother me to have business strikes/proof or MS/circulated together at all - each has its own character, and I like them all

Well, today I received Bryan's package to me. Lets just say I was a little AMAZED by what he sent me. I got a 1891 Morgan dollar, a Columbus Half dollar commemorative, and a 2006 Silver American Eagle. I am sooo happy right now! Thank you soo much Bryan.

After working hard, I got semi decent pictures. No where as good on this site, but its the best I can do. Here goes nothing!

WOW! ...There really are some good guys left in the world.

Nice going Bryan!

Needgames4lyfe - I would not want to tell you what to do, but if it was me, I would treat those coins with respect, keep them for life ... and always have a good story to tell... about how there are still good guys out there.

there was a guy on this forum named catman that used to have giveaways and also was always ready to send coins to new numismatists and YN alike. I didn't ever get to talk to him personally (he was in the coin community in the sky by the time I joined the forum) but have been the recipient of his kindred spirit from fellow members. It is my pleasure to help a YN or any other member when I can. We have just lost another great forum member in GaryBurke who was another one who was always willing to send gifts to fellow members. I have a quarter he got when they had the ceremony for his states release along with a personal COA he made up himself about the occasion. He will really be missed around here and hope his spirit lives on within all of us on the forum that was blessed enough to know him, as well as the people that knew catman on a personal level. It is members like this that truly make this the best coin forum on the net and even though there are many other forum members that are still with us that make an impact on us on a daily basis it is good practice to always remember the greats that are no longer with us and help fellow members anyway we can when ever we can just so that those that are not with us any longer can look down and know their spirit on the forum lives on. Here is a picture of the insert (COA) Gary sent along with the quarters he sent to members

Goldrush: I will definitely be keeping these coins forever! I really appreciate someone going out of their way to help anyone out! After I get older, I plan on doing something like this too - it made a huge impact on my life, and I wish to do that to others too!
