It's in Quincy Illinois right across the Mississippi river from me, about 20 miles away.

I just got back from my first coin show. I had a great time and learned a few things also. Not as big of a crowd as I had pictured which was fine with me, there were only 12 tables there. I walked around the room a few times before my first purchase. Here is what I bought, will try to get somekind of pictures posted tommorow.

13 State Quarters that I could not find. I had to buy them, the wife got tired of taking the searched ones back to the bank every Friday.

2009 Territories & D of C Silver Proof Set $34.00

1952-S Franklin in MS-64 MS-65 range. $70.00

1963-D Franklin FBL in MS-63 $10.00

1880-S Morgan silver dollar in MS-64 $45.00

1822 0-114 R-3 Capped Bust in F+ S75.00

I think I did OK, maybe a little to much for the Proof Set, but I had a great time. Funny thing though, the coin store that I do business with and who told me about this show did not show up. They had a table with his name on it too.

Sounds like you had a good experience. Getting excited for my first show tomorrow, hope I find a couple good buys myself.

Here is a slideshow of pics of what I bought yesterday. I am terrible taking pics so this is the best I can do. I tried setting up a homemade tri-pod and using micro and the zoom feature but they were still blurry.

Sounds like and looks like you did OK. A small show like that was a good way to start. I'm sure you learned the etiquette as well. You'll take your experience to the next one.

Considering the area where the show was held, and the probability that the dealer was also from that area, he was most likely not there because he was at the Michigan Spring Show in Dearborn. A much larger show. The Greenhills show is a monthly show, small and inexpensive for the dealers so he can afford to eat the table cost for missing this month while he does a lot more business up north. Next month there won't be a conflict and he will probably be back at Greenhills. Greenhills used to be a little larger, but I still hear good things about it. (haven't been there in years.)

I suspect the reason so few dealers were there is due to Illinois having way to many coin shows on the same dates. For example there were three coin shows on the 25th of April alone. Mt Vernon, Peotone and Rolling Meadows. In the Northern areas there is a coin show every Sunday for the first 3 Sundays of every Month, every Month, all year long. Some are fairly large such as the second Sunday of every Month at Countryside with from 80 to 100 dealers.
It is getting to be a problem for some dealers to be in so many different places at the same time. And too remember that a coin dealer with a coin store usually has to close for the day when attending a show.

Hey, don't forget the Chicago International Show this past weekend as well. Oh and if the dealer he was talking about was Coins+, he was probably in Annapolis at the EAC convention. It was a busy weekend.
