It doesn't look proof to me, but it is a very nice MS coin. I would say MS65RD.

Not a proof, but a VERY nice cent. It's an easy MS-65 and, based on the luster, a TGP may take it to a 66 or higher. Luster and eye-appeal really effect a grade with the TGP's and this coin seems to have it.

wow, the reverse is nearly flawless. I believe the obverse holds it back from a 66. MS-64/ MS-67.

Completely concur with Thad. This coin could easily go 66. That reverse is jaw dropping and the obverse is not far behind. Great coin and thx for sharing.

Not a proof, but I'd call it an MS-65 Red. Beautiful coin - I have a great spot for that one - in my album!

The eye appeal is spectacular! I think it would likely grade MS66.

Thanks for all the grades and comments - it is much appreciated.

I have bought over 100 rolls of Wheaties and get a fair share of AU/MS coins but for the most part they are from the 50's - 57 & 58 for sure - never this old - it blows my second best 1938 away.

After hearing what you guys said about the coin and finding this one graded at MS66 at ha.com - http://coins.ha.com/common/view_ite...34384&ts=off - I think I will send it in to get graded. More so just to protect this coin from me - let alone I didn't pay for all 5 rolls what that one coin is starting off at at auction - looks like this is turning into the best lot buy I have ever bought. If I remember right I paid 42.50 for the 5 rolls on an auction.

Now - who to send it to - NGC or PCGS?

I have 20 or so slabbed silver eagles and pres dollars from NGC and my ex-wife used to buy from a coin show on TV and I have some coins graded from ANACS. I don't think ANACS has it together though because my PR70 2009 first day of issue, #1009 of 9972, look more PR69 to me and others I have shown. But then again I don't know how they grade them I just think the few water spots on the coins should have dropped them down just on eye appeal. I guess I will post those in another thread and see what you guys think. I am a bit long winded today.

I hear a lot of good things here on the forum about PCGS and NGC - is one really better than the other?

Thanks again for your input - you guys/gals are great

Peace
Brent

IMO it's not worth having it slabbed. Yes, it's a beautiful coin, but the value doesn't justify the costs of grading. Just put it into an Airtite and enjoy!

Brent, that is a beautiful coin!

Would any of you put this into a PR grade?

Proof is not a grade, is a coin that is manufactured as a proof. So the minute this coin hopped off the die, it would have received an MS grade, not PF.

As far as submitting it for grading, I wouldn't spend $40 on a coin that is worth about $40-$50. You can put it in an airtite or other plastic holder to protect it.

Thanks for the info - for some reason I was under the understanding that a PR coins back then were not made with special dies but was how nice the strike was (don't know who told me that) so help me out again

My bad on saying PR grade - I know better than that

From 1968 on I know how they are done, all proofs are made from special dies and are struck at least twice. To set my head straight - if the Red Book says "1936 PF-63" that coin was struck with special dies and struck at least twice.

I feel a bit dumb asking this question but would rather have the correct info. I really hate to state info I think is fact and be totally in the wrong. I have confidence I will get the facts here.

Put the coin in an air tite like recommended and back into the safe. Sure is nice to find quality like this in an auction roll of coins.

Peace
Brent

If you really feel a need to send it somewhere, send it to me for my Dansco. If not, keep it in an airtight and enjoy.

Awesome coin!!
