I would go with an MS63 0 Just my opinion. But that is one heck of a beautiful coin, and a great price at that. I also had problems with telling cleaned from uncleaned, but I think looking at different examples of the same type of coin helps a great dela

To answer your question nickel searcher, first I looked around the stars to see if there was any residue build up that would evidence an old cleaning/dipping. No residue. As far as the color difference one side could have been exposed to open air more than the other. What do you think about the mark running along the cheek? It doesn't really seem to be a scratch.

I don't think it will make the 64 grade but I do believe it has UNC details

BN or RB? I'm bad at determining the colors.

UNC details, RB or BN probably isn't taken into account for this. IMO this seller is somewhat of a scammer/exaggerator, but you got a good deal since it has a fair amount of eye appeal left.

What's your reasoning for details Brian, just curious.

Scratches on the face likely will get it a details grade because it is a higher grade coin, in addition to the corrosion spots on the reverse. This seller is notorious for selling exaggerated coins, and probably makes money off his restocking fees too. His other ID is 'shcoins'

Quote: Scratches on the face likely will get it a details grade because it is a higher grade coin, I agree, or it will knock it down to a 61 or so. It does have a lot of eye appeal, and you got a terrific deal! Congrats.

Is that a Cud around the upper part of the rim? From what I see, the mark doesn't appear to be a scratch, almost a groove.

I think whatever condition (corrosion?) was (and it was) causing the pitting was lifted out by cleaning....likely dipped....and swabbed and clothed.
obverse deep (emptied) pits at 12 and 2 o'clock obverse rim...what remains of the corroded condition at 12 and 2 o'clock reverse deep (emptied) pits at 6 and 7 o'clock
I think, before the coin was cleaned, the obverse was nearly the same color as the reverse. Note the red peeking out through the empty pit at 6 and 7 o'clock on the reverse. Note the 12 and 2 o'clock stain/corrosion on the obverse is the same color as the reverse.
I'd go 62, maybe 63 on it.

Nice looking coin at a decent price but IMO it would not slab as original surfaces at any of the top TPG's.

I don't want to be a downer but the scratch on the obverse and the corrosion on the reverse looks like an AU-55 coin to me. Just IMO. (It's still very pretty)!

Well was the $60 spent worth it? I'm thinking the surfaces will be a lot smoother than in the photos. The photos probably were sharpened quite a bit.

I think it was very well spent. Congratulations.

Boy am I lousy at grading this series because I would have said AU-58. It just looks like wear on the obverse inthe hair, and the leaves left side on the reverse.
