I didn't think that your pics were bad at all. The weak market or possibly some other reason must have been the reason your coin sold for less. It seems like when a coin is described as being cleaned in any way the price for that item drops off severely. Most collectors are not as knowledgeable as those on CCF and when they hear cleaned it means "stay away".

Yes you did get creamed on that one.
I have to say I would have loved to get that coin ... at that price.
That is one of my favorite coins, 1853 half with rays. I have a 1854 in my 7070 ... I would have swapped that right out for that one.

I had already dropped it alot with my value assessment of about $200. This coin shoots way way way up in these grades. Remember this is the 1853-O that goes for $40 in good, so I'm pretty unhappy to get less than twice that for an XF-45, dipped or not. But yeah I do think this factored into it.
I was especially surprised that it only went for that after I listed right at prime time (10 PM EST, correct me if I am wrong). I mentioned that the 1859-O I was also listing had some problems as well. The 1859-O was LESSER grade and actually went for the same price, and its just a common date. Perhaps I just got dismally unlucky as well?

Not sure how this ended up as a duplicate post, only hit submit twice... Edit: Anyhow, I'm not entirely displeased with the results of this little 'experiment' of mine. That certain coin hurt, but if you take out the bullion, I still made over 10% after fees. If you take out that certain coin, 25-30%. And that's including a lot of coins I bought at the start of my ebay buying that I got poorer deals on. Its a good sign that if I take great pictures that I can get good returns, even on ebay. I made about 80-100% on some of the coins I had bought in lots (the 1888 nickel, 1814 dime, and the 1835 Half Dime to a lesser extent. Edited by coinguybrian

I've seen much worse pictures on ebay than those. I've found that sticking to Sunday night end times helps a bit, tend to get more last minute bids www.kingstoncoincompany.co.uk

Your pics look fine to me Shadow. I say that I must agree with the guys on market trends right now. But then again it may be one of those fluke things that happen on the Bay from time to time. Do you remeber a few months back that one of our mebers posted a very nice Carson City Morgan he accuired on the Bay for around $20?

Wowser. You were definitely the bug instead of the windshield that time.  I got curbstomped on my last set of auctions, too. It's definitely made me a little gun shy about selling more, at least for the immediate future. |

I've thankfully been the windshield plenty of times so being a bug once in awhile isn't so bad = )
Tomorrow night I'm listing another set of coins with similar total value for 7 days instead of 5 (needed the money last time too to pay for something) and with vastly better pictures. Wish me luck. I'll post the results as they come.
