Both of these coins could be Mint State and very valuable. 1928 is the key date in the Peace dollar series. From the pics I'd say MS64 and MS62 and a trip to a major TPG is in order. If problem-free the 1st coin is worth $1,000! |

I would say high au to ms 63. I would be able to grade it much better if I had the coin in hand. I would send them off to get graded. Beautiful coins!

Wow, it sounds like a trip to a TPG is definitely in order. Do you think that NCS could improve on the appearance of the second coin? I'm going to try to get some better pics using the same lighting and magnification for both. Thanks for all of the replies. |

Very nice coins, I'd grade then at MS-63 and MS-62.

The second appears perfectly fine, although it may be different in hand. I personally like the toning.

a soft strike will still have MS luster on the weak areas, while wear will be dull and less/non lustrous.
From what I've seen though, this can still be difficult to discern.

I've always felt that wear shows up as "rub" in the high point areas of the coin. A soft strike will still carry mint luster to all areas of the coin if it is MS without the wear showing as we say on the high points of the eagles right wing on a Peace dollar. A well struck coin has hard, detail in hairlines on the obverse as well as good definition on the eagles' head, wing, back, legs, etc. Good details within the obverse and reverse devices usually gives way to a better struck coin. Does that make sense? this is IMO |

In my opinion the coins are in nice shape, sure a few bag marks, however the luster is present, the strikes are very strong both coins, Obv and Rev, ( for a Peace dollar, which are not usually known for that), Teresa's face has some bag marks, but over all, IMO MS-62 and MS63, very nice exceptional coins.... |

The toned one I guess is MS-63, the the other one MS-62. They are beautiful 1928 keydates, maybe their price ranges around US$ 1,000 & 950.  |

To put a close on this discussion, of the last four pics, the first one came back as MS62 and the second as MS61.
