I've had my 250 for a year+ and love it, but I'll check out the 350 (or whatever Garret has new) when my 250 wears out.

Got the 250 in August....I love it. Only thing is that my best places to hunt are under 6 oot snow drifts right now. I see the new Garrett AT is out. AT (All Terrain) is waterproof to 10 ft. That should be interesting to use!

The AT exists. Our distributor says orders paid for today will ship in late January.

Don't waste your $ on junk. If you can't afford new, look into a used Minelab.

You're right, but what are you calling "junk"? Mostly what you see in big box stores are junk. Minelabs are good machines, but tend towards a steep learning curve.

My DFX was a top of the line machine, and now I have no use for it, unless I want to hunt the tot lots....steep learning curve with Minelab? The first time I took my Explorer out I was digging coins within 5 minutes, at reasonable depth. That same afternoon I dug several silver coins and a couple wheaties and indian heads. I had never used Minelab and was totally unfamiliar with the machine. Basically, you watch a bullseye bounce around the screen....

The 1st Love of my Life (Lisa) bought me the Garrett 350 for Christmas so I can search for the 2nd Love of my Life (coins). I'm waiting for the ground to thaw so I may use it.

How user friendly is the 350, I want to try metal detecting but don't want to spend a the rest of the year learning to use the machine, especially since I live in Michigan and wouldn't use it for 4 or 5 monthes of the year.

The 350 is an entry level machine, not much to learn. Technology has improved in the 35+ years we've sold detectors to where they can pack some pretty sophisticated circuitry in a user-friendly package.

Tesoro makes several models that I would suggest people to look at. Depth in these are excellent, cost is reasonable, light weight, durable, and dependable.
Lots of good detectors out on the market -

I just bought the ACE 350 and the Pro Pin Pointer about a Month ago, I have to say I love it. I found a coin in less then 5 minutes out of the box, in my back yard 3" down a beautiful Lincoln Cent. I also just found in my back yard a 1954 Austria Coin with a beautiful Eagle on it at 6". About a foot from that at 4" I found what looks to be a Civil War Navy Button. Its round with horizontal lines in the field with an eagle clutching an anchor. It also has a few stars going around the edge. I live in Somerset NJ, Washington and troops were all through here, About 3/4 of a mile from my house is a park with open land project. I pulled an old bullet that I'm not sure if its civil war or not but looks to be a 22, Its just the lead part. Just before I left I got a strong clear signal Silver Dollar Half 8" down. I dug about 6" when I ran into perfectly laid flat brick, Would a brick come up under Silver? The only frustrating thing is I wish it had a operating cd with it. I think I'm doing something wrong. I'm getting false signals every time I come to the end of a sweep, From another topic here I think I might have my sensitivity up to high. I usually leave it with 2 or three bars missing that's it. I also would like a better understanding of the pin pointing. Or better said exactly where the sweet spot is to reduce digging big holes. I do recommend the Pin Pointer! That little bad boy is a must have. I'm in love with the machine, I don't think theirs any issues with it just something I'm doing that's giving the false readings. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! I also have dug a bunch of odd items. Keys, Nails,Ect. I'm amazed how strong the thing is. It picked up a small pc of very thin wire 4"down. I'll let you know what else I find in my back yard. Its a full acre the only down side is the prior owners use to have a garage back their where they fixed cars for a living. And they were drinkers, plus this areas all shale. But its all worth it. lol Thanks for reading. Good Luck

@Amassey: The falsing at the end of your swing is probabnly caused by some movement in the shaft. That is something Garret addressed on my new AT PRO. There are plastic threaded collars where the shaft pieces meet. This allows you to tighten the collars and lock the shaft in place so there is no wiggle. A piece of tape rapped around the tube before you insert it into the mating tube should help. Anything you can do to get rid of that little bit of wiggle.
