Coinsrfun, hi there :)

I got my info from Coins and Canada site and some other coins sites online. I always goggle or read, or ask, to cross check info. Coins and Canada shows no values at all for any but the blunt ML one. I'm just confused is all come here to real collectors to enlighten me :) Looks like these 47's aren't worth megabucks anyways, but it's nice to log them correctly and know basic values for varieties/

Soccerdad, I didn't know about the high lows ML's either until this thread.

My post was not ment to be harsh. If we do not look closely at all of the coin....new discovery's will never happen. Like the 1908 5 cents which is not large or small, that is the only point I am trying to make.

Thank you coinsrfun I do understand your point though and it's a good one. I also feel a little guilty sometimes for posting and asking for so much info from folks and not being able to cotribute so much in the helping others with good info for them or contributing givens as yet (working on that though )

Oh, you didn't sound harsh to me. Direct yes, harsh no ;)

When I try and send a scan at res 300 the website tells me the file is too large? I don't understand why.

I was not aware of the new 1947 variety. I have noticed that some cat will show some varieties and others wont. Charlton cat is the standard as as we know each year they focus on new varieties of certain denominations. For me I believe the ccn trends is a good guideline.

I'm pretty unsavvy about most new techy things as to functions and how to
understand and use them. And I forget a lot of information. Maybe just too much
to try and remember with all the programs and gadgets

Taking pictures of a coin can be easily distorted either by a little dirt or shadow with the angle of the light. Your second picture looks like its more likely a pointed 7 not blunt.

Yes, looks pointy by those last photos to me too. I scanned upside down and maybe the brightness and contrast settings a bit different to show a clearer picture.

I also just scanned a closer upside down angle view:

From the upside down photo it does look like pointed.
Here is a Blunt I found in a roll recently...

Thanks Thatcanuckyguy. That 7 you posted looks obviously blunt to me too.

Now I finally have a loupe as of today I can properly see my coins details and will
be rechecking most of them, including my 47's :)

No problem Dottir :) I'm going to grab a loupe myself of ebay. I'm using a 10x magnifying glass and it does work fairly well under good light but a loupe is the way to go. I' also going to look for a good used 20x-40x inspection microscope which will really help with looking for doubling error for sure ;)

I was using a weak old handheld and just got a 10X loupe the other day and am so stoked with how much more small details I can see. One thing I saw clearly that I couldn't before was that my 1947 low maple leaf is a POINTY 7. Photos made it look blunt but the loupe shows its pointy. I'll keep looking for the blunt ML

I'd like to get a 15X loupe next, and would love one of the scopes that can take photos as I have no camera and need to scan my coins. One day way down the road when my budget is better shape I'll spring for those as well as a small scale!
