Hey Ken, I've got an extra 2010 S cent from a busted open silver proof set. I'll drop it in the mail to you this week.

Because they are new and have not been out for very long. Three years from now you will probably be able to buy it for between $1 to $3 as well.

I agree, they are new so dealers have them priced high. Once the buzz dies down I bet you will be able to get them much cheaper, if you are willing to wait that is.

The 2010 Proof Sets aren't being broken up in nearly the numbers that the
2009 (Clad) Proof Sets were. The amount of loose 2009 Clad Proof lenses
(containing various 2009 Proof coins) at the Oct. 2009 Denver Coin Expo
was staggering (over a thousand!).

Those kind of prices for 2010-S Cents are a good argument for buying a full 2010 Proof Set.
(unless you're willing to wait a year or two for the individual Cent's price to drop)

With the Set, you also get the Proof Lincoln Presidential dollar (a nice complement to any Lincoln Cent collection).

Thanks for the answers. For some reason I thought they sold proofs individually instead of sets. Wasn't aware that they were priced high during the current year..... thought they were the same price all along.

jdfindring. thanks, but only if you let me buy it from you.

Possibly because last year they did sell the cents as a separate set, and they have been selling the quarter proofs as a separate set for about ten years, and they have sold the President dollars as a separate set since 2007. After all that one might come to expect the cent to be sold separate.

Nice try Cutepenny. Missing that one myself. Ken (and others on CCF)has sent me coins for free several times in the past, just continuing to pay it back and pay it forward. One of the many things that appeals to me about this forum is the family nature of it, people just being nice to people, helping and sharing both info and coins. Yes, there are some on here I've seen trying to sell coins to other members at inflated prices, but they don't usually stay too long. I've seen some people on here act like real jerks too, but heck, I've got a sister like that too. The mods are pretty good about sending those people to their rooms.
As for paying Ken, I'm still looking for some 2010 D nickels.

Jeff, I just bought a roll of 2010-D nickels and I'll send you some. Do you need any 2010-P nickels?

I can relate to your comments here also. 99% of the people I've dealt with from this forum have been terrific!.... kind, generous, thoughtful..... that's why I stay in this forum. I like to pay it forward and back also. Last year when I was giving my Lincoln cents away displayed how great the members can be. There was only one member who was over the top, but you just ignore them. I can't list all the people so have been kind to me as there have been a lot (and I wouldn't want to forget a name).

I'm beginning to lean towards getting the 2010 proof set I've seen advertised for $42.

One nice thing is I forgot to order mine from the Mint yet. This post reminded me to get on that now.

upstate, THANK YOU for alerting me about the 2010 proof set from usmint.gov. I never thought of looking there and I see the proof sets are $31.95, so I will get one from there.

The main reason why the 2009 (Clad) Proof Sets were broken up in such
huge numbers was the Set's Copper Cent lens.

The Cents were not announced to be available as a standalone Set at
the time of the Clad Proof Set's release, so for a few months in 2009
loose Cent lenses alone were selling for up to $18 on ebay (and
around $15 even in local coin shops).

So, from a $29.95 Set, you could sell one of its four lenses for $18.
If you sold the remaining three lenses for more than $11.95 total, you
made a profit. Two of the remaining lenses in the broken-up Set were the
Quarter Set and the Presidential dollar Set, which were sold by the
Mint as standalone Sets for $14.95 each (albeit with a box and COA).

You could then sell the loose Dollar and Quarter Sets for $8-10 each,
then maybe $5-6 for the leftover "Sac/Half/Dime/Nickel" lens.

By the time the 2009 Silver Proof Set was released, the Mint had announced
that a $7.95 Proof Cent-only Set would be released (which sold out quickly).

The Proof Shield Cent is not available as a standalone product.
(from the Mint)

The experiences of 2009 and the current high prices of broken-out
Shield Cents suggest there's a fairly large market that want to buy
Proof Cents, but no other Proof coins.
