Bad & Ugly! Of course, this must be the correct answer. So simple. You have a natural propensity for this kind of thing, my friend.

Definitely not Brilliant Uncirculated but on the bright side, at least it still has some luster remaining unlike those who sell VF coins as BU

Sorry, it was a mistake in copying from previous listings that I could not correct as it was already bid on when pointed out to me, in a less than friendly way, by one of your members in an ebay message. I do try to be correct in all of my listings and this one I messed up on and I probably have on others but mostly I think I get it right on the hundreds of coins I list. I hope that the pictures do the talking and try to provide good pictures so that people can see what they are getting so even if I get the a grade wrong. I do not understand the vitriol and some of the juvenile comments made here but to each their own. No, the coin has not been cleaned up and it does have luster and all of the detail is there with no surface wear but it is a bit Banged Up. Sorry that my grading capabilities (or lack there-of) seem to have offended some of you. I will try to be more careful in future as I hope some of this forums member will be in looking at the big picture and not try to denigrate the efforts of someone who is at least trying to be honest. Mistakes happens.Sorry about offensive message..I can discuss issues here but I never contact sellers.Trouble with ebay is that many sellers overgrade coins go get more interest.I saw it many times or maybe to many. Thanks for honesty and good luck with your bussines.

He did provide very good and detailed pics, so really whatever terminology he used (however right or wrong it was) can be ignored and one can look at the quality photos and make their own judgement. Everybody describes things differently and mistakes in verbage can be made easily, but the photos speak for themselves. There surely are many unscrupulous sellers and ill-informed people on ebay, but it seems like he just made an honest mistake. Although I don't know how "unfriendly" the message was letting him know about the problem, it is too bad it couldn't have been nicely pointed out and maybe the seller would become part of the community instead of being turned off by someone on here.

OK, I'm confused. You say you made a mistake, but you still say the coin is uncirculated?

Quote: is that luster or camera work? The first obv photo shows luster in the protected periphery areas, particularly at GROSHERZOG and the date. If you rotated the coin in hand, you would be able to see luster around the rest of the lettering as well. The eagle motif on the rev protects a significantly larger amount of luster with fewer open fields. I suspect that Friederich's bust has fairly low relief making it appear to be more worn that it actually is. The obverse has a significant amount of circulation damage(scuffs and dings) but the amount of luster present should keep it at the AU50 level. Shine can be difficult to differentiate from luster when looking at photos but experience is very helpful. It also helps to look at and hold as many coins as possible so you know where the luster hides and that will help you to know where to look for luster in photos. Of course, bad photography can render luster virtually invisible sometimes as well.

thanks biokemist for the explanation/education in the luster.
I, too, have my difficulties in grading. I know I cannot tell the difference very well between luster and shiny due to flash or lighting. In fact, I look at this and see 'flash' in the GROSHERZOG area. I mostly look at the pictures because so many descriptions are so subjective. But this can lead to issues with trick photography (and I'm not suggesting that in this case). Is the the key that no visible scratches or swirl marks in these areas makes it more likley to be liuster vs. cleaning?
I was going along for the ride (caved to peer pressure) with my BU definition. Sorry
