The Mint returned to profitability in 2004, largely due to their numismatic coins.

Which is, of course, the reason why they make so many of them...

To add to the question and further speculation when they produce regular circulation coins and they mint some 20 million loons and 250 million quarters in an average year plus other denominations and assume they are replacing coins lost where does the difference between the face value and the cost go?
If having people collect commemoratives and take them out of circulation if it wasn't profitable I doubt they would do it.

Meaning that the RCM was in the red for a couple of years over the entirety of it's existence and is still the only Crown corporation making profit.

Babel Fish translation:

"can you find away around me a message to one to send? do not see to mA my web page wenns differently goes."

I think he is asking to send the message again because he did not receive the previous one. Not sure.

OFF Topic:

He just wanted to have contact with me.

As this forum does not offer a "personal message" option (if it does, I haven't yet found it) he made it via the above post

Regarding Mint's profitability:

Maybe Ian Bennett will get a bonus this year, and they'll forgive him for losing that $15 million in gold.

EVR,

This is quite a story indeed. The insurance paid his bonus:

As trends in this hobby almost aways move from south to north, how long will it be till we have a discussion such as this re the RCM?

Interesting read DBM.

I'm sure we will have the same discussion eventually. But for now, it would seem that the RCM is doing pretty well. In fact, in 2010 the RCM saw a record 25 sell outs. I don't know enough about the US NCLT to discuss this intelligently but maybe the 25% drop has more to do with the economy than anything else. Things may pick up again.

For Canadian NCLT I think there are way to many of them and the Mint should scale back. But thankfully this is a free market, and the market will dictate what they need to do to maintain a healthy and sustainable business.
