Maybe a before and after coin. Before being burnt on the stake on the obverse, and on the stake on the reverse.

I thought you were considering a coin with Lizzie Borden on one side and Joan of Arc on the reverse. It did make for an interesting image. Or we could have the Lizzie Borden coin with the axe on the reverse and the Joan of Arc coin with the stake on the reverse and start a really interesting series.

I would like to Alice Chambers on a coin! Anyone have a clue who she was? This ought to be good as she holds a very very unique distinction here in the U.S.! Care to make a guess?

I think Sojourner Truth would make a nice coin, personally.
Alice Chambers, eh? Not sure who that is, and I'm feeling to lazy to Google it! ;)

All I can seem to find on Alice Chambers is that she was heavily into conservation and environmental issues. I saw that there is a library dedicated to her in Manitoba. Is this the woman that you are referring to?

No, not that one! This one is ALL American and had quite a colorful history with a dramatic ending. I will give you another day or two on this one!

Alice Mary ('May') Chambers was a painter and draughtswoman. She may have been the niece of Charles Augustus Howell, an entrepreneur who helped Whistler to sell his works and himself owned a significant number of the artist's paintings.

Okay, it wasn't easy, but here's what I've come up with. I wish I could find more info. The story looks like it would be very interesting. Alice Chambers was also known as Toothless Nell and is the only woman buried in Boot Hill Cemetary. She was killed in a Dance Hall brawl in 1876. If you have any more info on her, I'd love to see it.

Good Job Susan! I was in Dodge City in January and took a picture of the marker in what remains of Boot Hill. Only woman to ever get into that historic grave yard and her well known reputation of being a "soiled dove" helped put her there. Was there anything about Dodge that I didn't like? Yes, the COIN SHOP is CLOSED ON MONDAYS and that is the only day I had to shop!!!

Do you have any more info on Toothless Nell? You've got my curiosity going and I can't find anything else about her on the internet.

Nothing more than she was a "lady of the night" so to speak and was killed in a bar room brawl. I couldn't even find out if the shooting was intentional or accidental. She may have been an innocent bystander who managed to be in the path of a loose bullet but my instincts tell me she was right in the thick of the brawl when someones gun went off? Couldn't find out more but do know she was "well liked" by many but still managed to be the first "soiled dove" (what a polite way of putting it) to ever end up in Boot Hill! That distinction alone would surely warrant a commemorative, wouldn't it?

After finding out only a little about her, I definitely would like to see her on a commemorative coin. The mint would probably include her history with the coin
