Really I can't see a premium for a "used" proof. I know I wouldn't add one to my collection unless it were a key date and I used it for a filler.

More bad news I'm afraid.... The " WAM" is a business strike coin (P or D) that has the proof S reverse. So the Proof S coins for 98, 99, 2000 all should be WAMs by design. Somehow the mint got some of the reverse dies exchanged.

My understanding is that if you find a proof S with the AM close in those years you have a valuable find.

If I am correct on this you have a normal S proof here. Sorry for the bad news...

i found a 72S nickel in circulation a year or so ago. I posted it here, one of my earliest posts. it had been in circulation quite some time. I guess it would grade something like proof XF (PF40) or something along that line. kind of an oddity.

I am pretty sure he knew that, which is why he said "unfortunately" in the topic, as in "I finally found a 1999 WAM; unfortunately it is a proof, which are normally WAM."

Opps, I think your right. When I read it at first I thought he was sad about a proof in circulation getting dinged up. I owe you guys one.... sorry!

No problem! What you said was still the truth, just misapplied. No harm, no foul.

That's not a bad looking circulated proof! I've found a few myself, but no cents. I've found 1 dime, 3 nickels, 1 Franklin half and 2 Kennedy halves in circulation. Most of mine are pretty sorry looking.

I've gotten a couple of nickels and halves, along with quite a nice Georgia proof State Quarter with nearly no marks. I keep the proofs I get, but I suppose if they are well circulated, it wouldn't be too much use to hold onto them.

How many proofs have you found in your roll searching?

1999-WAM-Unfortunately....

Found this one awhile back inside a Brinks box. It's not as pretty as your 1999 though. Nice find!

some are really really nice too
others somewhat circulated
also have 2 quarter proofs
2 half proofs
2 penny proofs
1 nickel proof REALLY nice hand shake 04 one
they are great when I find them no matter what the condition
