Quote: Again, why do you think it's questionable?
Because of the gouge mark showing what appears to be a non-gold material underneath. Personally, I don't think it's "fake", I agree with the others here........ Ha Ha.....but if he does drill it.....Heck !.....I'm curious now which way this will be confirmed ! It's certainly not something " I " could ever do......

I tend to agree that drilling the coin proves nothing other than the fact that the owner has a fake coin. The PCGS labels are routinely faked and the APMEX linkage is Hearsay.

But the "gouge" is smaller than a speck of dust. It's magnified at least 20X in the first set of images. In the pic of the full slab it's at least 2X magnification and barely visible. Hand that slab to somebody to examine with their naked eye and it's invisible. They say paranoia will destroyia. This is a prime example of that. If it was a 10oz no name gold bar without a COA, then it's a legitimate issue. Now in 0.01% likelihood that it is a fake gold Buffalo, in a fake PCGS slab and sold by a major retailer of precious metals? Then every piece of gold in the known world is suspect. P.S. Here's a pic of the coin as most would view it:

It doesn't look like a gouge to me, looks like something on the coin, some foreign metal or maybe an impurity.

I personally have seen hair, food crumbs, and paper shreds sealed inside slabs- it does happen.

Pictures up on afcom. It's real gold. I was able to drill through the case without hitting the coin. Once through I used a toothpick and rub off the foreign substance. Not sure what it was as I was unable to locate it.

They ( PCGS ) could have done that for you and resealed / re-slabbed it for free. Oh well.

If this was a struck through error, you just destroyed its value by tampering with the substance on the coin.

I read that other thread, and don't quite understand--given that AMPEX offered an exchange. There was collector value as slabbed, and I now suspect it's down to bullion value.

what the heck is the "Black Diamond" pedigree anyhow? Also I don't understand all the "graded wrong" posts either since this was a struck through error that happened at the mint, it shouldn't take off points

Don't drill it. If you have any personal doubts...send it back.
