Miscategorized Items That Could Offend...

I think we are getting away from the point . Its about listing coins in the wrong category not what the coins are. This example just happens to be one that some find offensive. I have issues with people who deliberately list in the wrong category. I can only assume that people do this deliberately to try and attract the uninformed buyer.
After all if most of a sellers coins are in the correct category then by demonstration he knows where they belong and I have to assume any change of category has to have ulterior reasons. I always view by category in ebay as has been pointed out if you just look at search results you miss a whole bunch of stuff. It bugs me to see coins that don't belong in the sections I'm looking at. When I was a newbie collector I might have been tempted by these miss categorized coins and bid in excess of their value through ignorance. I often see 2 Cent coins sell for more in the Civil war section than in the 2 Cent section because the buyers of the Civil war section do not have the numismatic knowledge to be informed buyers. I think the coins in question are place in the moragn dollar forum in the hope that someone who know nothing about them thinks 'cool I want one of those"
Without really having an idea of what its worth. It may also be to get around listing rules for other ebay entities. I just know it bugs me so it has been duly reported..

Now, Maineman, the ambiguity you spoke about comes from paragraph 3. Paragraph 1 says don't do it, and paragraph 2 says if you do it, we can pull your listings, and restrict your account.

I'm not defending ebay. I generally don't like ebay. But, I'm certainly *NOT* going to defend a seller who lists coins in certain categories, particularly American categories, when, in fact, they have no U.S. coins for sale. The seller in question has been on ebay for 8 years, and he/she knows the rules.

I'm not saying the rules are fair. But I agreed to follow them, and if I don't like them enough, I don't have to use ebay. I don't happen to like the direction this country is heading. Now, I could sit back and complain about it, like Joe Six Pack, or I can do what I'm doing. I'm moving elsewhere. One thing I won't do is compromise my integrity by picking and choosing which rules I feel like following on a daily basis.

Indeed.. just as your right to deal with what you wish should also be respected.

Like someone said earlier, it just happened to be Third Reich coins this time, but it's not really about which coin it is. I would also report Lincoln cents miscategorized in Kennedy halves. They have rules for a reason. If they didn't want things categorized correctly then everything could be thrown into a one big one. I personally find it extremely irritating to be looking for one thing in a category and see listings for something else that's not even related.






It can also mean displeased or angry. Not speaking for scubu here, but it sounded like it was meant to mean one of these two




And CCF enjoys posters, that's what promotes education. But not if they don't follow the rules.

I guess one thing that hasn't been shown to me are the rules about miscategorization...I am an ebay seller and I've never heard of them. Is it possible this seller hasn't either.

That being said, I still stand by my original belief, learning to cope with inconvenience or even hardship is actually a builder of character, I for one don't want my children thinking they should be coddled to the point where they can't scroll past an item without feeling cheated,angry,displeased, or offended.Sounds like the road to unhappiness

I honestly don't mean to sound incredulous, but do you really think someone needs ebay to specifically say "Please don't post Zimbabwe Dollar Coins in the Beanie Baby category". That would be coddling someone.

Now, you touched a very serious nerve with me with your last comment. I sincerely hope you weren't serious, but either way, let me explain "the road to unhappiness" to you.

My first name does not start with J, and my last name is not Merrick. My screen name comes from Joseph Merrick, more commonly known as "The Elephant Man". I have a congenital medical condition which is extremely rare (about 120 cases, world wide). While it is not the same condition Mr. Merrick had, it causes similar deformation of the body. In my case, my lower body. I can not drive because my feet are now too big to use the pedals. I cannot take public transportation, because people are actually scared of me. People talk very slowly and loud to me, presuming I'm an idiot. Mind you, I have a Ph.D. I have actually been called "The Elephant Man" several times. I will be 44 in March, and I won't live to be 50. That's life. The funny thing is, my condition, and my own mortality don't make me unhappy. I'm playing the hand I was dealt, and so far, I've played very well. What makes me unhappy is blatant, and total ignorance, or those who know better who think that they fall back upon ignorance as a crutch. Every day I realize more and more how little I do know, and I act accordingly.

Now, I did not tell you the above to get an apology from you. In fact, I would prefer that the subject be avoided. By every one.

Now, what really, annoys me is living in a country where everyone complains about politics, but if you ask someone if they voted the answer more often than not is "Well no, but..." Life, (my life at least), is too short for that.

As for your kids, I hope you teach them to listen more than they talk, to think for themselves, and not to be afraid to voice their opinions, even if they're in the minority. I guess an easier way of saying that would be "teach them to take responsibility for their own lives..."

In closing let me say, I doubt you and I will see eye to eye. And that's OK. I'm fairly sure you did not intend to offend me with the "unhappiness" statement. I am many things, but politically correct is definitely not on the list.

Fairly easily if they use templates. Say you normally sell Morgans and set up a template where all you need to do is tweak a few words and change the pictures. If you go to sell something besides a Morgan and forget to change the category (which is very easy to do), your item get listed wrong.

Mind you, I'm not saying that's what happened here.
