Six figures doesn't go too far anymore for buying storybook rarities. I think one needs seven and, soon, eight for an 1804!

I honestly think I'd get more enjoyment out of a lot of key dates vs one storybook rarety. However, I imagine the people with those rareties have plenty of key dates.

That is an interesting question. Given finite resources, would you rather have one 1804 dollar or a complete set of every other U.S. coin in Gem BU?

I think the novelty of having an 1804 would be fun for about two days and then it would become boring and get locked in a vault somewhere. The Gem BU collection, by contrast, could provide endless enjoyment as you research all your die varieties, etc...

I don't think it has anything to do with enjoyment of the coins, its all about bragging rights and investment

I would have to go with having the entire set....it would get boring just looking at one coin all the time but with the entire set there is just more to love.

Here we are a few months into the future, and $110 sure sounds like a bargain now. How many are kicking themselves for not buying one of these when they were cheap ? Check the prices they are bringing already on ebay. I just have a feeling this issue will eventually be accepted by the mainstream numismatic community in the same light as other "non-official" coin issues of the past. If you ever get one of these in your hands, it will be very hard to put down and stop looking at it........ beautiful.
Rest in Peace

It would go nice with my 1913 V nickel.

I think the difference between this and stuff like the 1913, 1804, 1974 and 1933, is even though those weren't authorized for release, they were minted by the gubmint. This isn't.

Just a nice conversation piece, if you like conversations like "if I told you where I got it, I'd have to kill you!"

Not me, because I still wouldn't have one unless they were handing them out at the door of a coin show and then it would only be a remembrance of the show so you can count me out of that kicking themselves list. Everything isn't about making money, some things have a principle behind them

Speaking of principal, and the thought of if an "original" piece appeared, and would probably be seized, If I recall a member here had a sweet coin, which was slabbed by a TPG'r and it was NEVER legally released to the public and apparently the coin was never seized nor was the "owner" arrested for having a 1974 "special" cent............This coin, while nice to look at, I would agree with Bryan, I would not have anything to do with the coin, my others would be in an uproar!LOL...

It's very pretty coin, fenton. Is MS-68 your grade? I'm saying, I don't think the TPGs are into grading these, are they?
