yeah as I said I haven't used it myself I just remember him saying he liked it and it seemed to do the job for allot cheaper than the 500.00 the ryedale costs. This is the coolest copper sorter I think I have ever seen but its also slow, but looks cool working http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6dYza7E9_c. I have actually seen one of these working before and it was cool to watch but not something you would want to use for efficiency or anything

i have a ryedale and it works great. but it doesn't do dimes well. it only really does canadian nickels. I find that the us nickels are all over the place.

when you say it doesn't do dimes well, what do you mean? about how often does it miss the silvers?

Does this machine count coins, or sort (sort into what)?

it is a sorter, czar. the comparitor allows you to sort whatever you want. you can have silvers rejected, etc. or you can have coppers rejected. word on the street, though, is that it's not so great with the silvers.
I'm just trying to get a good idea here about exactly HOW bad it is with silvers.

andy the one who owns ryedale does not recommend using the machine to sort dimes b.c it isn't accurate

yeah he mentioned that to me, but he did say it would only miss about half of them, so to me it would still be a vast improvement. I usually get 2-3 per 250.00 in dimes, so if I can do 18,000 dimes in an hour it's an all around win-win. I was hoping someone might have already tried that.

Can you replace the comparator or is the issue with the feed mechanism?

the dimes are so thin that the feed mechanism will will feed a slightly worn penny with the dime at the same time, which in turn will jam in the comparitor

well, bill, I'm thinking that I wouldn't be mixing the dimes and pennies, so I'm thinking a penny wouldn't jam anything.

PS--you can replace the feed mechanism for 20-30 bucks to accept dimes, etc.

I just purchased mine. Pros: its sorts very accurately very fast
Cons: $500 misses 50% of the wheats that go through jams a little more often than I would like.
I would purchase this item only if your are going to do some serious sorting! you'll never remake the $500 you put into it unless you do a lot of late night sorting :)

I've seen it on you tube. Id really like to pick one up, but it must take some effort to recoup costs. If the average box yields 20% copper ($5) and you can sell them at 2 cents each that's $1250 or 50 boxes. If your are going to check for die varieties and what not it will take some time. Not sure if I have that kind of time with a 9 month to take care of. Is like to here from anyone who has one and how its working for them

It works well. Sometimes jams and pennies get caught up. It is worht it though if your going to go for the long haul! I am not even sorting through my coppers. I just put them in gallon jugs and move onto the next box. Besides ebay is there a decent place to sell these?
