The coin shop in my area doesn't have junk silver boxes to sift through. They told me to tell them a quantity of what I wanted and they would bag it up for me.

Quote: Not around here, I got my 1925 (which is in almost the exact same shape as yours) for about $9.
About the same at all the coin shows too. Actually even at a local flea market they run close to that.

We went through a similar silver melt in the early 80's when the Hunt brothers drove the price from $11.00 to $50.00. Man, a lot of coins disappeared.

Yes, buckets full of SLQ's, Barbers, Washington's, and great condition 90% State Quarters are selling at my local shop for under melt(not much under melt, but still under melt)

You can get Barbers, SLQs & Washingtons in my area at or below melt in similar condition to yours... Last weekend my guy had 25 common Barber dimes in similar condidtion for 1.75 a pop. I even told my guy that was less than 25 dollars a toz and he said he didn't care, he was making money at 1.75 and it is all about turning over inventory. That particular inventory got turned over into my safe.

It's a shame SLQ's are trading at melt, they've always been one of my favorite coins, especially the reverse.

Depending on location yes. Were I used to live the store owner would have tupperware containers full of slqs, Barber halves, quarters, etc just for a tad bit over melt. You weren't going to find a key date or a AU condition coin but it was nice going through and picking things out. Now, I moved to another state and the stores here have all standing libs in 2x2s and are asking RedBook prices!!

These are good time to search bags of 90 percent silver coins for additions to your colections. Back in the late 70's I was allowed to search cashed in bags of coins and I retrieved a 1921 d, and 1921 Mercury dime, both in xf condition for melt price then. I still have them in my book.
