Correct, what I meant is that I could go home and stamp 666 on a quarter and throw it into circulation. I happen to have a simple number/letter die set, I bought to stamp a vin number on a hot rod I had years ago. Someone had to go through the trouble and make a heart die, so it was probably done for a reason and more than once. |

I have seen the heart one as well as the one with Lincoln smoking the pipe. I've also seen these things on ebay before for a couple bucks but it didn't look like there were too many buyers. The market for these is definitely a small niche. |

Found an 'I Love You' cent a couple years ago. Gave it to my FAVORITE teller at the time. She has since moved on.

I think the states Cents were the most popular as they were made in sets with every state counter-stamped on them and would be purchased in a frame. I think it was one of those mail order things where you get like 10 for $1.00 and they would send you the frame and 10 more for so much until you had the whole set. I know my Grandfather had one of those frames with the whole set in them but don't remember where it said they were from. These things have been counterstamnped with all kinds of things, some commemorating special things and some just for the heck of it in the back yard. I think the halloween,santa,heart, and US Flag coins came from another set about holidays. I have seen an bunny and leprechaun for Easter and St Patricks day that came from this set also. There is a sports set that has baseball,basketball,bowling and others in that set, so there are quite a few sets with these types of things on them Here are a few others Appolo Landing  Bicentennial  Valentines Day  Kennedy/Lincoln  |

There are some "Free Mason" counterstamped ones out there too. I've got a Kennedy stamped Cent and a Kennedy stamped Half (with a little stamped portrait of Kennedy)......and a couple C.S. Cent States too. Never could chuck mine back into the wild either ! Valueless as they may be.....there's just something neat about them ! ...  |

We've had half a dozen different. Our wholesale cost was $3 or so a roll. They can be engraved (laser or otherwise) or punched. Punched will show a flat spot on the reverse, engraved won't.

There's also a repousse (3d) popout version. A raised bubble the size of the O in "one". I only recall that in Masonic emblems.
