Thanks guys for the grading. Guess I wasn't toooo far off in my estimation. Guess I coulda picked up more at that price but I only got these two as they're years I didn't have yet. Anything else would just be for re-sale down the road sometime. They did have an 1882 CC sitting off by itself in a mylar for $149. Probably close to AU but at first glance looked like it had probably been cleaned. They also had a junk box full of coppers all for $1 each. Looked to be 100-150 coins in there. Wish I knew something about coppers.

Here's the 2nd pawn shop coin. After looking at it more, I'd put it at AG-03 ? Looks like it might have been another victim of granma's lye soap. Lotsa "character" though. Poor little thing is down to 25 grams. Lightened up the reverse a bit for detail.

Nice pickups under melt value too! Curious do you have pay tax on coins all time? Here in Iowa no sales tax on coins. Unless some places do some don't I guess but pretty sure I haven't anywhere yet even antique shop in town.

Re taxes....if I buy a coin anywhere in CA it will be taxed unless it's a private transaction of course. One bought off the internet will also be taxed at CA rates if the seller has a physical presence in CA, i.e. Heritage Auctions. They're located out of state but they've also got a presence in CA. Any ebay seller in CA is legally obligated to charge me as a CA resident sales tax. The same seller selling to almost any other state will not charge any tax. Don't think things are going to improve for a long time.

<rant> Amazing that even with that huge sales tax and most of the high profit tech companies, California is still in deep fiscal trouble </rant>

Well given the spending mania of the legislators for the last 30 or so years, and all of these out of control social programs and entitlements due to state employees, (and they are entitled by contract since that's what the state agreed to) the state has dug itself into a hole. In addition, companies have been leaving in droves to avoid some of these high corporate taxes which are not easing up. We can expect more of them to scoot out when the CA cap n trade goes into effect with all its new regs and restrictions making it even more difficult for some of them to compete. These companies which have been lost to other areas have put a big dent in the state's revenues and I can only see it getting worse. What it all adds up to is higher taxes for us peons in an attempt to stop the hemmoraging. Got a ballot initiative coming up in June where the Governor is going to give us the opportunity to vote ourselves even higher taxes.

We fought to get the sales tax on coins eliminated in Ahia in 1980, but they slipped it back on a few years ago.

Dunno if other states have this, but you can sign an exemption certificate if you're buying for resale. Some may have time limits or require you to have a vendor's license, etc.

I don't want to get into a huge political argument, and what I will say will bother a lot of people, but cutting social programs just seems absurd to me in the face of our obscene military spending. Making sure there isn't abuse is fine though, I guess. I think its true about the companies though...but what choice do you have? Ruin your environment or save some businesses? Without a worldwide effort it doesn't matter anyway, get ready for 100 degrees being as common as 94 in NJ in 70 years...

Think you're right ShadowCreator. The way this thread has evolved might be better to pick it up in another forum. Didn't mean for it to get political.
