You could go to a local dealer and get a US mint set for 2011 which has almost all the coins issued this year, but that would cost $35 or so. Your best bet if you could wait for shipping would be to buy them on ebay like kenkat said. I have seen them on ebay for around $1-$2 for a 2011 cent from the philly mint and the Denver mint (P&D set).

For a quantity of 2000, your best chance is to purchase an entire bank box of rolls($25). Your chances of getting them for face value from a bank are slim if you are on a short timeline but it can be done. There are always a number of new boxes available on ebay, it will probably cost you 2-2.5x face value though($50-75).

oops sorry I didn't read the 2000 part. Might be a little tough especially with the yearbook deadline being fairly soon. I would think the ebay box would be the best bet. Even though they would pay a nice premium for them, it wouldn't break the bank for a yearbook I wouldn't think. Otherwise, maybe settle for a picture of a 2011 cent on the cover :)

Since your talking about a school, you may want to have the school contact banks or the US Mint too. Not sure if that would really help but I would suspect a local bank would really want to help a school. Good public relations. Same with the Mint but again, that school should try using the board of education in your area to contact the local government for such things. Might end up getting them for cost of even free if done right.

Usually they seem to release new coins in Puerto Rico for some reason. Do you know anyone there who might ship you some?

I have 36 rolls which isn't quite enough for what you need but if you don't find them elsewhere you can contact me through the link in my signature line.

Good luck, I hope you find them at a local bank!

I can't even believe how fast all of you answered my post!! Wow! Thank you SO much! I really appreciate it!

I am going to look into all of these suggestions. One thing I didn't understand about one of the posts, however: something about how I would need to post 50 times before being able to buy something?
Is that what that post means? I mean - it's probably how this works - but you know - I didn't read the fine print. Thank you!

My dad collected coins for years - & now that he has been gone for the past 6 years, my mom talks about selling his collection. But seriously, after reading some of these posts in general - not about the 2011 penny - but about a lot of different coins, I think that I just might have a new hobby!! Thank you!

You have to have 50 quality posts on this forum before you can buy or sell on the buy/sell forum we have here.
