Competitive Exhibit For Coin Show

At a coin show last Sunday, but was small, there were no just displays, only dealers selling. So not a good place to judge for lighting and I didn't ask. However, there is a coin show this Sunday and there is always someone with a coin topic display at this one since it is usual 80 to 120 dealers. I will ask about lighting at this one but that really means nothing since rules are sometimes really different in different states.
I know for sure at many of our gun shows there are lights over displays all the time. I remember that since I always stare at them if there is a Broom Handle Mauser on display.

Be sure to open the links on how to prepare a winning exhibit. the link on display case size is pretty standard for all exhibits as most exhibit rules are spun off from the ANA regulations. My son is preparing for his secong go a exhibiting the end of July.

Mostly true of all shows around here except everyone must pay for table rental. Entrance to the shows and parking is free here for all shows regardless of what your selling, showing, displaying.
No one makes money from someone just being there. For our area shows are based on table rentals for income for the place that has the show. Two of the shows in my area are in Hotels and they do make money on the restaurants from show sellers, displayers and naturally visitors. So far as I know at all the shows in this area they consist of sellers and/or displayers of coins and/or currency. In addition there are usully jewlery and/or other items for either sale or display.
At the last coin show I was at I think the place made a fortune on the coffee they sold but not really sure it was coffee.

I just wanted to follow up:

We ended up displaying the coins in the display case and the capital coin holder. We made a tri-fold display that stood upright that contained the title of the display and the information my son wanted to share.

He wrote short articles on what got him into collecting coins and what drew him to the Peace dollar and also what he learned about the Peace dollar from putting together his collection. He also had basic information like the sculptor, composition and mintages, etc.

He won first place in the junior category, which came with a small trophy containing a silver American Eagle.

The president of the ANA, Clifford Mishler, was there as well. He spent quite a bit of time talking to my son about collecting and gave him a silver coin with his likeness on it.

Also, my son won a raffle for a 10th oz. gold American Eagle!

After the judging, the person who judged the exhibits took us around and explained what he looked at when judging, so that my son (and I) could make an even better display in the future.

All-in-all, it was a fantastic weekend. We bought some nice coins, visited with some great people and learned a lot. My son felt like he came home with a huge haul (which he did) and best of all, we had a lot of quality father/son time.
