More listings will be free, but they've quietly raised the maximum FVF.

Yeah-like the song says-fees,fees, everywhere fees. (Oh -sorry-it's signs.) Well the signs say fees, fees....

I don't see this as a problem at all, in fact, I expect to stumble across some items that are mis-priced on the low side. Then again, I'm typically looking for something specific, like a 1917 Type 1 SLQ now, so I'm usually on the advanced search side. I just doubt 500 garbage listings are going to appear for that.
If they report a huge listings increase in their second quarter earnings report, I think it will be very difficult for them to reverse course, unless there's a way to have increased profitability accompany the reversal.

ebay is now getting a % of shipping costs. They say that it will promote free shipping for buyers. the post office isn't supplying me free shipping materials and or free shipping to my buyers. I am not making any money off shipping but ebay wants to add it to the FV fee which they base there % off. I am a top rated power seller with a 5 star rating. To me its just another way that ebay is taking money from sellers. The free Listing/BIN hopefully will off set it.

Interesting. Unfortunately, idiots who overprice garbage will continue to do so regardless of the fees.

USPS raised some of their prices this week as well. I am sure there'll be a lot more free shipping deals now..

I, for one, applaud the new ebay fee structure. (hold on a bit, don't start throwing rocks at me yet!) For the longest time now scammers have been using the "insane shipping charge" to circumvent the ebay fee structures. This absolutely hacks me off no end. I've reported dozens, perhaps a hundred, auctions for MASSIVE overcharging on shipping. I've seen shipping fees for a single coin be over $100 and the actual coin start at 99 cents. It's a clear violation of ebay policy to do so. It's about time this happened! Many ebayers routinely go a bit high on shipping to cover incidental costs and materials. That's OK, just normal business, you know? But when you are massively overcharging to cheat ebay? No way, and I'm surprised that this took this long to happen. Massive shipping charges are dishonest, plain and simple, and I will not do business wih anyone who follows this practice. Yes, it's a gathering of idiots with laughable BIN prices. I say, hooray! Bully for the old auction-style listings! Let them run five million BIN fantasy price auctions-there's a little tab at the top for "auction only" and it seems bidding has been spirited lately.

Last night was the first chance I had to do some ebay browsing and it's just like I thought. If you go to a category like small cents>wheat>1909-1919 and then sort by "ending soonest" you're bombarded by page after page after page of over-priced garbage.... one crappy seller after another.

ebay is getting worse and worse. I prefer to get stuff at the local stores, craigslist, or forums like this one.

They could have implemented a system to red flag any listings with a shipping fee over a certain amount for investigation. The people caught could be warned, then ultimately banned for their nonsense. They took the lazy way that provides more blood sucking, I mean profits. Meanwhile, hurting the honest seller's bottom line.

Well, it's happening as predicted. Have you noticed all the unsold overpriced coins clogging your search areas. Of course it's always been like that-now there's a lot more of it.

It doesn't really affect me as a coin buyer. I most always use detailed searches with no BIN listings, that include grade designations. If a listing doesn't have a detailed hi res picture, I'm not going to look at the coin anyway. After a while, you notice which sellers always have quality material on a regular basis.
Now, as a collector who occasionally sells duplicates and unwanted material from time to time, this is a godsend. Every coin I've ever sold comes with two gigantic up-close photos. It just takes all the guesswork out of what you are buying. It will be nice not to have to start every auction at $1 (when I know the coin will go for more than $20) just to avoid fees.
One more thing - using Paypal to print shipping labels, any coin can be sent with a tracking number first class for around $1.75 + the cost of a bubble mailer. Not bad.

A prime example of abuse just closed on ebay. It was a worn 1925 Buffalo nickel with a starting bid of $250,000 or buy it now price of $1,500,000. Of course there was free shipping.
