Are All 1942 Nickels Sliver War Nickels?

Don - you are correct. I snapped a picture with three since the one in the middle always puzzled me. When I set it aside my other silver nickels, it's much harder to tell them apart. It has the gray toning associated with the War Nickels. But it must be nickel as it doesn't have the P-D-S mint mark on the reverse. Just odd in appearance I suppose.

I would have guessed the far right too, but the one in the middle had me wondering... thought you were putting 2 out of 3 as silver

I know it is weird when you see silver tarnish/tone in a NON-silver piece, I always run into late 60's dimes that look like they have the pale white tone on the face but are no doubt clad. My personal theory is that they were in heavy contact with silver early on and have just acquired a thin layer of silver powder enough to fool the eye. Probably totally wrong but heck it's just a theory.

For the record my first impressions on the original image were... left to right

1. No doubt Cu-Ni
2. close but not quite right? weird what is that?
3. That is Silver!

Plus the silver is a harder alloy and wears differently from a Cu-Ni. I can tell from ware sometimes more than tone.

And a total on the 43, no question that one has not seen many pockets

Nice find on the Henning. If you do a search on this forum for Henning nickel you will find a lot of information.

Thanks for the welcome denco7. I found out that I too have a Henning nickel because there's no MM above Monticello. I checked with a loop just to make sure the MM didn't get worn and there's nothing.
