After looking at his other listings, it looks like they may have typo'd and meant 170+ nickels. That may have worked to your advantage making other people skiddish to bid.

That's exactly what I thought; his other listings had many coins pictured and described a high number...so I figured he made a typo. Also, 'many duplicates' tipped me off, etc. With a small lot of 17 you most likely wouldn't say that.

Well, if you've got a '39 and/or '45 DDR in there you're looking to flip - let me know!

It looks like 172 coins not 17. It should be a typo I hope for your sake. Sounds like a good deal. Too bad there was not duplicates on 1950D.

Over 370 nickels pictured, and it says you get 17? The time to be asking questions was before you bid.
Water over the darn.
Let us know what shows up, especially how many billon nickels.
Worst case scenario, you send them back for SNAD (significantly not as described).
He could have done a much better job describing his lots, but he seems honest.
I think you'll be OK.

I messaged him...confirmed that it is 172. That's what I thought. I didn't think it was 370...there are duplicates. I guess I figured that it was almost certainly a typo.

Any ideas on how to sell the more common dates? I'm sure they're at least worth more than 5c. I wouldn't like to sell them separately for like...20 cents a piece. I bought a lot of 110 1921-S cents earlier...now 172 random Jefferson nickels....expanding my horizons beyond 19th/early 20th century silver a bit. He indeed seems like an honest guy and is a low profile seller (not some seller who relies on hype and deceit like numismaticbureau etc) so I was comfortable taking a shot at this.

Nice job. There are lots of common date nickels posted on ebay from the 30's through the 50's for a buck a pop, but they are rarely sold. If you undercut them by a little bit you could probably sell some off that way.
