Ageka makes a really good point here. I still see people five years into the program who think that the Sackies are actual gold, and you just can't convince them that they're actually made out of the same stuff as their kitchen faucet. These are people who were born and raised in the US, so I can definately see how a non-English speaking person could be easily fooled.  Rachel [:p] |

At this time they are supposed to keep making the Sackie as well so that proof set should be a hum dinger!

You know, I might just quit the hobby. It's gonna start costing more to collect buying mint sets by paying an extra price to get the basic issue coins with those stupid president dollars inflating the price.

Anyone (esp ND, who follows this closely)- is there any hope that this bill won't pass the senate?

Very slim. The way the current bill is worded, it will pass quickly. Everyone wanting to get the Lincoln redesign in 2009 has to sign off on this dollar bill. So look for a 2006 dollar coin.
The only good part of all of this, is that by 2009 we won't have to worry about them. The last two coins failed in two years. This won't be an exception to that rule.

Supposing the dollar presidential coins fail, will they just up and stop the series before its finished? For those who might collect these, could they end up with only a partial collection if production is stopped? David quote:

It will end up being sold like the other failed coins. Only through the mint for a premium.

Catman, I belive that in the current wording, tyhe sitting president is excluded form the series. My next question, I though that current US law forbids living persons being depicted on coins (altough I realize this statute was ignored in several "classic' US commemoratives.. |

It does, but with anything else, congress makes and breaks the law as they choose.

...and when they do pass a decent law or bill, there is some judge out there that will legislate from the bench by deeming the legislation as "unconstitutional". Makes you want to scream!!  |
