I should mention that some one scratched "GOOD LUCK" on the Walking Liberty. I suspect it was a graduation gift back in the day, then was soon lost. I was looking for it so I could take a pic of it but I put it in a special place so it would not get lost...

Me either. The best I have ever done is a $1 bill. When my kid was about 4 years old we were in the base exchange in Sigonella, Sicily. He came running up to his mom and I said "Mommy I found a dollar". I looked down to see what he was holding and the first thing I spotted was Ben Franklin! I said son that is a $100 bill. The wife reported that some money was found, but no one ever came forward to claim it so he ended up with some big time cash for a 4 year old.

Wow, of all things you would find in Sicily, an American note.

I always pick up money I see on the ground, guess I got it from my Dad who passed away a couple years ago at 81, he did it most of his life right up until he got sick when he was 80. After he passed away my Mom gave me a coffee can with over 500 wheat pennies he had found over the years. "Nothing really rare, but helped my wheat collection". As far as the largest amount I ever found it was a wallet lying in the middle of the street back in 1963 when I was a teenager it had almost 100.00 in it, I took it home and showed my Dad it had identification in it he said it's up to you what you do with it, it's close to Christmas and that's a lot of money "which it was back then" I thought about it for a while and being young and having that much money I wanted to keep it, but decided I should take it to the owner, my Dad drove me to the address and this frail older lady answered the door and I could see she had been crying and when I showed her the wallet she started crying and hugged me and said her husband had just passed away and this was all the money they had, she had dropped it on the way home from the store, she offered me 5.00 reward, but after hearing and seeing her I said no that's ok, she said God Bless you son you're going to be a millionaire someday, lol well that never happened, but I did tell the story to Doug Stephan on his radio program, and he said I am going to send you that 100.00, and he is a man of his word, a check came in the mail for 100.00 a few weeks later. After I returned the wallet I felt good, and was glad I did it, and my Dad told me "I'm proud of you, I was hoping you would make that choice...

Sorry for the long story...

-Hank

Not sure where someone would live where there is that much money laying around but with the economy the way it is, not sure how long any coin would lay on the ground. In the last 50 years I can't remember seeing anything larger than a cent on the ground. And do to way to many operations, picking up a penny is just not something I could, would, should attempt. When it comes to finding money I don't even know to many people that ever find anything on the ground worth anything. I do know someone that cleans up in a bar after it closes and he does find coins on the floor. Most don't look like coins after being on a bar's floor all night.

That is a great idea to keep track of. I own a C-store and I personally clean the carwash vacuums to pull the change. Most of the time I find around $3.00 a week mostly in pennies but hey it adds up.

I always pick coins up. I can spot them from across the parking lot. I also check all vending machines, pay phones, arcade games. heck anything that gives back change.

When self checkout at grocery stores first came around, I was finding loads of money. people didn't realize the bills were dispensed under the counter.

"I'll pick it up if it's convenient" and by that I mean I will pick it up if no one is looking, or if the person or persons looking won't judge me.

I do pick it up but it's mostly pennies I find and I pick it up because I think it's lucky. I have no idea how you find paper money because in my 29 years, I have never seen any bills just laying around.

My brother and I have found hundreds of dollars in change in Coinstars, vending machines, etc. We lived in CA for a year and people there seemed too careless about their money. Once we found 298 pennies, 1 dime and a quarter in the reject bin of a coinstar! We had to fill our pockets full and keep our pants from sagging down!

We also found a $20 in an ATM and a $10 under a self serve cashier in Home Depot. Many times I have also found $1s AND $5s on the ground.

I'll always pick up change lying on the ground. Think I'll start checking out the vending machines too.
