Aluminium was selected as the material to be used for the apex of the Washington Monument in 1884, a time when one ounce (30 grams) cost the daily wage of a common worker on the project;[51] aluminium was about the same value as silver.

What is the word at the bottom of the coin that he has outlined in red? I can't make it out. It almost looks like "LRRORA" to me....

PROBA -meaning essai(essay) or trial.

He seems to have sold several coins and banknotes that are historical. Why can't he look this one up?

Believe me-he did.

And here is where they coming from with price about 6-7USD plus delivery:

I do believe sometimes people selling rarities on ebay but in 99.99%they are not.Why risking 6000$ coin(probably much more)to sell under 20$ instead of proper auction?Fishy from beginning to the end.

as I receive notifications from ebay about listings containing "100 zloty", just recently I have seen the same guy selling: the 1922 100 zloty "Jozef Pilsudski" (mintage 60) with a catalog price of about 1500usd for VF and about 11500usd for UNC:
the listing had the same description, and started at 0.01!:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...:RTQ:CA:1123

sold for $558.78

i wonder if that's too good to be true, or if the same description is used too often to be a coincidence)))

Just polish cast, add artificial patina(I'm sure of it)and you got rarity.I cant find exact much of scratches in this archive but I'm sure is copy as well.

http://cgi.ebay.com/German-Waffen-S...em4aaca5cd2e
and not sold and not polished and patinated version here:
http://allegro.pl/2-ss-kantinegeld-...7531966.html

He is selling a lots of rare notes as well.I'm not getting into but I'm thinking that he is the one who stamping them.Notes are quite common. To get rubber stamps like this this days is minor problem. One big scam for huge amount of money.

valdiman Interesting coin

I would put in the Fantasy until proven real category.

When a seller goes private he usually has reasons - NOT GOOD ONES. That alone is a huge red flag.

The recent negative and his defense to the buyer's comment shows he is untrustworthy or very stupid.

The title of the auction was:

Quote:
Jewis Ghetto BANKNOTE 50 Konigsberg

The buyer replies in his negative assessment of the item:

Quote:
Item description is deficient: there were no Jewish ghetto & J banknotes in Koni

Seller's reply:

Quote:
READ DESCRIPTION The banknot was Stamped JUDE (JEW) not JEWISH GHETTO !

Well, I for one did read the item description AND ALSO THE TITLE. But I believe it is the seller who misled the buyer. "JEWIS Getto BANKNOTE" sure sounds a lot like a Jewish Getto Bank note to me.

Secondy - the seller is not a seller of DVD's who happens to have one coin but presents as a dealer in supposedly rare numismatic and historic items. There is ZERO reason for him not to have such a rare coin authenticated and SLABBED by PCGS if it is real. That would remove the gamble and get him BIG $$$$$$$. So who is the wishful thinker ?

Before ebay got on their privacy kick to protect the frauds and counterfeiters, it was easy to warn bidders who were over their heads on fakes. I used to write to bidders all the time asking if they suspected they were bidding on a fake. I made a couple very good friends that way who initially didn't believe me but changed their minds once they got the coins and could not return them.

But now with the new ebay privacy protection systems in place it is virtually impossible to identify a bidder unless you know every individual's personal feedback number. But a private listing like this one makes even this info unobtainable.

If this coin is REAL PROBA - I would be SHOCKED.

I also noted that this fellow sold the same item on consecutive days - to different bidders. So he is a magician too. Here is feedback he received on May 31 for an Orengeburg Concentration Camp note.

Thank You ,, the very best Seller

May-31-11 08:14 ORANIENBURG Concentration Camp BANKNOTE 20 swastica (#320692021059) US $26.00

The next day May 4th he sold a second identical note with the same inverted stamp and same serial number on the note. He received this feedback on May 26th:

Quote:
very good seller, very nice note, recomendated+++++
Member id 915franci ( Feedback Score Of 151)
May-26-11 12:31 ORANIENBURG Concentration Camp BANKNOTE 20 swastica (#320694351927) US $25.00

So he either had two copies or one of the buyers had no idea he got a different banknote

I am breaking up a HUGE collection of old stamped material for the estate of George Perkins. Included are 10s of thousands of postal marks and cancellations of all types and ages. Many are from WWI and WWII Germany. I am VERY SUSPICIOUS of the color on many of his items being TOO uniform and applied with far too great a REGULARITY of pressure. Hand stamps of this age should show differences in color based on how they were used and stored and the angle of application should in my opinion cover a wider range of possibilities. I think who ever said the seller has made up stamps of his own is 100% correct. I would also wager the red ink all comes from one and the same stamp pad.

As for his other auctions, EVERY ONE I have reviewed - is IN MY OPINION FAKE.

Good luck to bidders buying from this guy. FRAUD is written everwhere.

The date 1934 is different and the coin is a different type but the fact that it is a rare PROBA does make me wonder.

I would say it is FAKE until proven REAL.

But as a modern forgery I would never pay more than $10-15 for such an item.

I'm not a coin collector, specialising in WW2 banknotes instead, but I've just joined to warn you all that jandrag10 appears to have started a new account as dani96dan. Both sellers are in AB, Canada, both use the same style of listings, even down to using the same text lifted from Wikipedia and both are selling WW2-era notes with falsified stamps. I noticed there are a few coins and other items listed, but I don't know enough to comment on these. I messaged the seller giving 5 separate reasons why the banknotes were not genuine, and received a very curt 'If you don't like it, don't bid' back.

Is there any way of reporting this to ebay? He lists the notes as '100% original' - surely this is fraud?

Example listing here, then click on other items: http://www.ebay.com/itm/17068627819....m1436.l2649

in light of all the bargain fakes there on ebay, what should one think of listings when price is just according to catalogue:
