My local coin shop has one in AG. I think they want $3k or so for it. I did not look too close and that was as of a month ago.

That's exactly what I am doing with my Barber dimes, budget set. I have the biggie, 1895-O in G6 and just picked up the 01-S and 13-S. Keep us posted John!

Yeah, I envy that 1895-O Dave, she's a beaut! Did you ever send her into be graded? I still need to talk you into completing an slq set! Your pretty much half way there cost-wise with the 1916. :-)

No, I thought about getting her certified then doing what you did with your Dansco and the velcro...awesome idea! I do have some SLQ's, and will start this set sooner or later I love that 1916!

Great score Johnny! That seller really has a past. Maybe that's why you got it for openers. For whatever reason - getting it makes you da man!

Quote: Good luck on the 1901-S! One of the few I'm missing too. Only missing a few and that 96S is one of them also. Think I'll go out and buy a roll of those. That is one series where there is a real lot of low minted coins.

I would be happy with a certified FR2 01-S just to have it for the set. I have even seeing PO1 coins. Still big $.

The 1896-S Barber half is a pain in the posterior as well. Finally picked up one at Hertage Auctions in F12 condition but paid an arm and a leg for it.
I do know that the entire 1896-s series, Dimes, Quarters and Halfs are scarce in higher grades but the Quarter is the king for this series.
Good score and a great price. I have a friend that has one in roughly F12 condition and won't part with it at all. LOL He bought it 25 years ago for a mere pittance, talk about interest....

Just received it today, here are some closeups. The obverse has a complete rim, and should grade G4 imo. The reverse I think is FR2. Interesting toning on the reverse, my guess it's been in a whitman album for a while. It would be a nice coin to have only the obverse showing! I'd love to see pics of your barber? From what I have read, this is acutally a tougher date than the 1913-s and they have a lower TBG population, but the fact that only 40000 13-s coins were minted, this alone really ups the demand.

Very nice John! I would also agree on G4/FR2. AG3 sounds good :) Any leads yet on an 01-S?

Thanks guys! No leads on a 1901-s yet Dave. I've looked at a couple AG-3s , and then when I look at the price tag; my face goes like this . Someday, but I will probably have to pay for it in half eagles. I have been staring down a real strong AG-3 1913-s...which I may go for a bit sooner. I also purchased a nice 1914-s and a few other dates for my album are on there way. BTW Dave, I read you're getting married soon!! Major CONGRATULATIONS my friend!
