I do not seen any Mexican 1922 2 centavos in strictly uncirculated having been offered in a major auction in the last 15 years. Usually companies like NGC have a register - did they say anything about how many coins in that category they have graded?

Congratulations! I would highly recommend you sell it through Stacks Bowers, it will surely set a new record price for a XXth century Mexican coin!

(Just in case my post could be regarded as unallowed or unwanted marketing - you are of course free to go through the other biggie, or any other auction house for that matter)

Dos Mundos I assume you got the Max Keech CD on WOI as he makes a BIG compliment to your article in the MNA speach in his WOI talk ... I agree the upcoming Stacks/Bowers November 2014 World Coins Auction is Prime Time ... for this piece.

Tremendous score Muenzen_Magister . Would you post a picture? I just checked the NGC population report and there are six 1922 2 C graded at NGC: 1 pr/ag, 2 vg, 1 vf, 1 50, and an MS 63RB, wow. As a possible comparable, another scarce Mexico minor is the 1931 5 C. NGC has five 1931 5 C graded. Ponterio's (Stacks Bowers) sold an NGC MS 63BR for $10,000 a few years ago. The buyer crossed it to PCGS where it came back a 63BR. In my opinion, the 1922 2 C, especially in high condition, is more rare than the 1931 5 C.

@John: the CDs are on the way, they take a little longer to get to germany, but I am definitely looking forward to that presentation!
What I can tell from auction appearances, the 1922 2C is much rarer than the 1931 5C, and until now I wasn't aware of an uncirculated specimen in existence, despite Krause giving a price for the "Unc" category. Of course, I get to see only auctions, since I can't go to US (or Mexican) coin shows, and I understand that a considerable part of modern Mexican coins (i.e., 20th Century), especially the minors, are traded over the bourse floors rather than at auctions...

For those that don't know, the MS63RB 1922 2c was in the Stacks Bowers auction today. I was the lucky winner, though I paid dearly for the privilege. Thank you to Muenzen Magister for finding the coin and to Kent Ponterio of Stacks Bowers for bringing it to market. I have been coveting this coin since I saw it "discovered" here months ago.
This is only the second true UNC 1922 2c in existence. The first is a raw red(!) UNC that was part of the Miguel Muñoz collection, auctioned in Mexico City in the 1980s. That coin is still raw in a very advanced collection in the US and will not be seen for many years to come.
I am also the owner of the AU50 and that coin is now available.... :)

Very nice coin. Saw it in Scottsdale. I thought it was better than 63, not so sure about the RB. You're right, $15K for a 20th century copper is "dear."
The auction today was good, a lot of seldom offered material at relatively good price points. Your coin, well you set the price point. I also picked a couple items.

Pruebas just for laughs check out the 1701 Carolus III Kleeberg tomorrow in the Stacks auction. Session 6 - Colonials.
Its a contemporary counterfeit but probably the best one I have handled or seen ... I am not the consignor. It should break the 2R record for an off-metal contemporary which is currently at $1750.
You like oddities how about a CAROLUS III portrait (facing right) on a coin dated 1701 with CAROLUS II as the motifs. Its already at $1100 or so ...

Westwood Arms, I agree about it not being RB. I'm sure if it ever gets crossed over to PCGS or cracked out for some other reason, it would come back BN. That's fine since that's what it is.
Speaking of cracked out, you are probably right that it has a shot at 64. But it would first need a trip to conservation to remove some of the "gunk" on the coin. Since conservation costs 5% of the value of the coin, I don't expect it to be making that trip anytime soon! It will stay 63RB for the foreseeable future.

I got the hookneck 8E and the 1918 5c from the last SB auction. IMO they are both undergraded.

Both great coins.
I especially liked the 1918 5c with almost no rim dings. Tough coin and reasonable price.

Another nice one coming up. Duane Douglas has an AU 1922 2c on the block. The color looks a bit off but I can't be sure from the pic.

Thank You and congratulations, pruebas! I am happy, that the coin was bought from one serious Maxico collector! 5 C 1924 and 1 C 1924/3 MS-64 was also from the same lot. I have some pieces more from 5 C and 1 C 1924 also graded MS-64, but 2 C was only one piece.
