Good question stevex6. I have three of the 2000 map mule and Five of the wheelchair mules and I cant seem to determin which has more value.
I dont go off the trends because these mules are very unpredictable when up for sale. I have seen a MS 65 map mule sell for $1100 as well as a recent auction where it sold for $475 I believe. I havent seen a graded wheelchair mule sell however I have seen some in their original packaging sell anywhere from $180 up to $850.
It doesn't really matter which one you buy as both are great coins to have in your collection!

1. Millenium Mule - 281 known (51 PCGS, 230 ICCS) as of 2011. I got a MS65 PCGS for $500, and bid up another one on Torex and pushed it to $600 including fees. I sold a MS63 on ebay for $400.

2. Wheelchair Mule - 5 graded by ICCS so far, but I suspect most reside in their original packaging. Got mine for $475 and will have ICCS grade it soon.

Hard to know which one is more rare. I have seen only one wheelchair mule sold in last 3 months anywhere (and I bought it). Heck, I've had a chance to acquire three 1969 large dates during that time!

Get both but get the Wheelchair mule first if you can find it. If the market ever wakes up to their rarity, you wont find either for < $3000 one day.

oh, and you beat my price for wheelchair mule => I paid $495 for my coin (seemed to be pretty much in the middle of the overall range) ... hopefully, your prediction will be correct and the coin's worth will increase dramatically over time ...

Thanks again for your responses

1973/74 Olympic Map Mule $184
2000 Millinium Mule $300 MS 64

Darryl...when and where did you buy your wheelchair mules?

Sounds like you got a heck of a deal, as no one seems to be willing to part with them cheap these days :)...

Yah, I am just starting to concentrate a bit more on the ol' mule coins (now that I have pretty much beaten-down my OCD-need to collect all of the canadian quarters, I find myself looking for slightly more cool coins with a bit more mystery/rarity) ......... hey, I don't mean to completely spin the subject in another direction, but what are your thoughts on the "error coins"? (you know, the coins that have been either "broadstruck" or the coins that have been strick on a planchet that is different from the "usual" planchet? ...... are these coins as valuable as a legitimate mule coin? (just curious on your thoughts)

Hey, I'm new => should I have strated a "brand new" blah-blah, rather than chaged the subject under this same umbrella? ... darn rookies, eh?

My thought is that by collecting mules you are already collecting error coins. Its just a different type. Different strokes for different folks. There are all types of error coins out there. Have a look and see what strikes your fancy. Following this forum is a great way of discovering new stuff.

Mules are error coins, correct. I'd say they're probably the most interesting type.
The next most interesting for me is the 25c struck on wrong planchets.

I have several 25c struck on a 5c planchet, 10c planchet, and even a copper 1c planchet. Bought a bunch from the recent 2011 RCNA auction. Now those are fascinating and super rare.
I might be willing to let one or two go.

Beyond that, I find recognized die crack varieties fascinating, including the 1936 dot-bar (I have the highest ever graded), the 1936 bar (I have the Pittman MS63), and the 1999 May canoe "with rope"...the 1947 dot quarter is nice too.

But I bet your quarter collection is incomplete. How about the 1872 repunched N in CANADA, or repunched A in VICTORIA?. How about the 1874 inverted Vs in CANADA, the 1881 N over inverted N, or the 1881 repunched A in CANADA, or the 1872 A/V ?

I've got all these, in various quantities and grades.

Hi danlos9551.
All of my wheelchair curling mules were bought on ebay in 2009 and 2010.
I am not proud of it but I was what some would call a ebay sniper. Sitting in the bush until the final seconds and then making my bid with seconds to go.
I run my own company so I have the luxury of having my computer on all day to watch certain items.

Error coins are just as fascinating to me as are mule coins.
I obtained a 1964, full triple brockage nickle on a copper planchet on ebay. In the coming weeks it may be featured in Canadian Coin News in the Error section by John Ritgko.
If it doesn't appear in the magazine over the next few issues then I will post some picks here. I think you will really enjoy this coin danlos9551, it is one of my favourites.

Ahh...nicely done on the 2007 WC mules...I knew I was a bit late to the party :)...I'm surprised the 2000 millenium mule is still somewhat easy to obtain. Maybe not for long.

The triple brockage nickel on copper sounds fascinating...congratulations :)...looking forward to the pictures.

Small world danlos9551, for I too just recently purchased a few error coins at the July 16th TCNC auction (I bought a 25ct struck onto a 1ct planchet, a 25ct struck onto a 10ct planchet, and I also bought a 25ct broadstruck coin ... all three coins, rock) ... oh, and you're correct => I certainly didn't mean to insinuate that I have every single version of every 25ct piece => I merely have collected at least one version from each year that either 20ct or 25ct coins were minted (I have a long way to go before I can actually say that "I have every Canadian quarter!") ... oh, and sadly, my wife will never allow that goal to be reached (apparently, I am quickly learning that there is a fine line between collecting really rare coins and getting laid!) ... anyway, thanks again for tossing-in your 25 cents of knowledge.

We must have been bidding on the same ones, as I let a few go :)....was also bidding on the loon struck on a quarter but bidding was getting a bit high for my taste...I can't wait to receive them...it seems like this was someone's error collection that was acquired over a long time.

If I'm not mistaken, these dont come up for sale very often....and no one knows how many there are :).

we must share the same likes, because that loon struck on the 25ct planchet was my original target, but I bailed after it reached $500 (I think it went for close to $800-$900 in the end ... it really was an awesome coin) ... and yah, that was kinda why I asked the question regarding how much the error coins were worth, for there seemed to be a who;e sh*tload of them being auctioned, so I wasn't sure if they were as rare as you're now saying? ...... hey, next time only one of us should show-up for the same auction, otherwise it's gonna get very expensive and I'll never get any tail!
